@Butrflynet,
Ok, then. We need to get together again anyway, for sure. I'll call you tomorrow, not for any med thing, just to plan to tootle around, over time, to some places I know and you don't just yet.

Well Osso you could do the world a big favor, believe it or not, by writing about how it was for you, to lose and regain your sight. And what you saw during the surgeries would be an exceedingly delightful read, to so many of us.

Really, I gasped in startled happiness when I read your post about (joy!) seeing again. Write it up, post a link, pretty pleeez? You truly have a way with words.

Panzade, it would be interesting to hear from you on that too.. no pressure, heh. But really, I know you have dwelt in despond and survived.

Best wishes, Osso. I hope this turns out well.
When I was in ABQ, I rode with Osso and Roger. Good drivers. Eyesight and hearing, um, okay. But I got to see a lot of ABQ because neither of them had a good sense of direction.
And when I was in Boston, George offered to drive me back to my hotel in the suburbs. We ended up visiting, and revisiting, the same warehouse district several times.

@ossobuco,
True story: Roger and Osso, with Johnboy in the back seat, drove around ABQ for an hour looking for some place where they could buy cheap wine, or maybe it was wine cheap. We eventually got to the eatery where Dys, Diane et al were. Afterwards, I rode with Osso and Roger followed to my hotel in the old part of ABQ. We got separated and each car made its own circuitous route to the hotel. And we managed to get lost in the parking lot. Osso parked behind the building; Roger in front. And for 10 minutes we circled the building looking for each other. Osso walked pretty quickly back then; faster then Roger, so we eventually caught up with him. If we had all walked at the same pace we would still be there. Searching.

@realjohnboy,
Snort..
that was the search for the mysterious location of Trader Joe's. It involved a very strange phone call - to the store or the operator? - with both JBoy and I giving up on the phone effort while Roger tried to remember where the store was.

If I work it right, I can blame this all on Roger.

Of course I parked in the back. That's where the shade was..

The website for the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired has a list of local resources:

http://www.nmsbvi.k12.nm.us/content/outside_resources.htm

This is probably good as a one-stop sort of place:

http://www.cfb.state.nm.us/

(Note -- don't be put off by the "blind" part of these organizations. "Blind" usually includes "can't see that well.")

This provides free assistive technology:

Just discovered this thread, Osso. How sad life is, but--also--how brave some people are in managing it. You are definitely not alone with these ordeals. My heart is also here with you.

Dear JL, Just Brooke, Tai Chic Chic - thanks all, I count on your thoughts when the surgeries go on. Won't be for a while yet, this thread being to get myself in gear.

Which brings up, JL, how is Luchi doing? Still much better?

@sozobe,
Sigh of joy.

There's something so comforting about your post, Soz, knowing you are still so smart, so practical, still being the very-most-wonderful person you always were. It makes me really happy.

Still listening, Osso.

@realjohnboy,
For future reference, I had a great cover story involving heavy road construction on east/west roads, and ending up at the wrong Flying Star. It was a good lie, and backed up by RJB, everybody was going for it - till osso ratted me in.

Be warned.
