@tsarstepan,
So I maybe pushing it a tad bit ... too much hype for this unnecessary and unknown holiday: National Cupcake Day?!

Shake Shack Will Bring Back Bacon-and-Peanut-Butter Burger This Weekend
4/21/10 at 6:27 PM

Last Saturday, Shake Shack UWS quietly offered a peanut-butter-and-bacon burger that a Washington Square News reviewer said was “an interesting creation that at least satisfied my curiosity, if not my taste buds.” Now the Westside Independent reports you’ll get a chance to satisfy your curiosity: “It’s coming back this Saturday as the restaurant’s special burger of the day.”

I will need to make a pilgrimage to my favorite burger joint next week and give this a try!

@ossobuco,
I found out later that sadly it was a one day special burger and it won't be on the regular menu. Hopefully, they'll bring it back soon.

More promising NYC-based burger news:

A Craigslist ad indicates that 5 Napkin Burger, which opened an Upper West Side location earlier this year, is staffing up for another location at 35th Avenue and 36th Street in Astoria, near the Museum of the Moving Image, the UA Kaufman Astoria theater, and the Studio Square beer garden.

That's less then 10 minutes away (walking distance) from where I live. Hope they open up soon.

@tsarstepan,
Keeping this thread alive for burgerphiles everwhere!!

Just tried a delicious fast food cheeseburger at Fresh-N-Fast Burgers. Much fresher then McDonald's, Burger King, or Wendy's.

Had a burger at a place in Rehoboth this week. It was called "5 GUYS" burgers. They were quite acceptable. (No"gourmet" ****) Just two cheese burger patties, covered with caramelized onions (And no Walla Walla or Vidalia "tasteless" onions), REAL yella onions that retain their onionness and get a bit sweet as they cook. THen, the burger had toopings of mu choice(I took BACON and jalepenos)

An excellent lunch burger for less than 5.50 with a drink.

I think 5 Guys is a chain but dont know from where.

@farmerman,
I've been to a Five Guys burger when I visited Pittsburgh one year. Now we have a couple here in NYC. One I walked by in Brooklyn across from the Park's Slope Barnes and Noble. Gotta go back there and give them my patronage.

Really good burgers and good fries! Yum!

A little history on the franchise:
Quote:
History
1986: The first Five Guys location opens in Arlington, VA.
1986 - 2001: Five Guys opens five locations around the DC metro-area and perfected their business of making burgers… and starts to build a cult-like following.
2002: Five Guys decides DC metro-area residents shouldn't be the only ones to experience their burgers and start to franchise in Virginia and Maryland.
2003: Five Guys sells out of franchise territory within 18 months and starts to open the rest of the country for franchise rights.
2003 - Present: Five Guys expands to over 550 locations in over 35 states

@tsarstepan,
I didnt realize they were that big. I hope that, their franchising doesnt impart an institutional "McDonald" flavor on their burgers. (I believe anybody can tell a MickeeD from any other burger).
Thats why I liked the 5 Guys product, it seemed more "home made" in quality and the use of caramalized onions or steamed onions makes a nice addition.

@farmerman,
I can tell you they [5 Guys' Burger] have a better burger then 5 Napkin Burger. http://www.5napkinburger.com/

I went to their newest location in Astoria before going to see the film Despicable Me last week. I loved the caramelized onions and I enjoyed the different texture and taste of the gruyere cheese and the soft bun but the burger was somewhat bland. Needed some seasoning or something else.

@dyslexia,
I would say 5 Guys Burger is worth a visit. It's a solid and tasty burger at a very reasonable price. Plus the plethora of free burger toppings is quite nice:

@tsarstepan,
Revisited 5 Napkin Burger. Tried the deep fried pickles and pastrami and the lamb kofta burger. The lamb burger was great. Much better then the original 5 Napkin burger. Wonderful flavor and quite juicy. I loved the cucumber and tahini sauce. Quite an original touch for a burger.

@farmerman,
A 5 Guys opened up in Scottsdale recently, so I decided tonight to swing by there to see if FM has his head on straight. Pretty damn good burger. I ordered it "all the way," which is with most of the toppings (except jalepenos and BBQ sauce). As I said, very good burger. Ordered fries too, both regular and cajun style, and you get huge portions, and they are quite good as well. Pretty damn good for a "fast food" chain, and infinitely better than In N Out. I'd say it's worth the trip, dys.

Consider yourself an ordained minister of the Church of the Very Good Burger! Go forth and spread the 5 Guy Burger love!

5 Guy Burgers is very good stuff. I just might make a special trip to the Brooklyn location next week.
