@fbaezer,
There is that to say, that while PFM remains our leader we get a weekly concert by italian baking rock stars (that's probably like, they're really cookin' with gas..)

@Ticomaya,
I want him because I know how he has played his entire carreer.
Greene has always started slow, but he is an extremely good defensive SS.

And IMHO you can never have to many good SS.
Beltrain is good, but I have plenty of outfielders, and now I have room to make a couple more pickups.

@ossobuco,
But...
should I ever get to be zee leader, you'll get to check out Fabrizio de Andre on that and other cuts. (That may be my least favorite of his).

I do like PFM's rendition .. a tad more easy listening, which has its good attributes.

Tico, I sent you a trade offer. It could solve one of your problems, and mine.

Hopefully it involves you giving me an elite player for one of my many crappy ones. I'll go check it out ...

Edit: [MOMENTS LATER] ... unfortunately, as I suspected, that was not the case. No can do, Foxy.

@Ticomaya,
Ah well. But I didn't offer you a zero either. I just can't play him as the guys I have in that position and at utility are marginally better, but he has been producing really well lately. It seemed a shame to keep him on the bench. It was worth a try. Smile

Oh, dear. It appears that 1 or 2 or 3 of my already lean hitting crew may end up on DL. The scary one was Brad Hawpe. He was sliding into 2nd when he got hit in the neck by a throw from the C. Right below his ear and his helmet. He lay on the ground for a long time before they strapped him to a board and carted him off to hospital.

@realjohnboy,
DLs seem to be unusually high this year? Or maybe I just didn't pay attention before?

@jespah,
Brad is okay. If you slide your finger back from your ear, you get to the lowest most portion of your skull. The fear was the ball might have hit there and could cause concussion. It actually hit below that and below his jaw. Big bruise, but nothing serious.
I don't know how far it is from home plate to 2nd base. It is amazing to me that guys can throw a ball that hard and however far it is to cause that much of an injury.
Thanks for your concern.

Speaking of DLs ... everyone knows you have a "DL" list for your fantasy team which is exactly 2 players long, right? In other words, if the real baseball players get put on the DL, you can put two of them on your "Fantasy DL." I only mention this because ... well, I'm not sure everyone knows.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Seeing Tico's Sierra Nevada Pale Ale public service announcement reminded me of an incident that occurred several years ago when Houston was playing Milwaulkee. I don't know if any of you recall a pitcher for Houston named Melvin Famey. He was an excellent relief pitcher. He also had a reputation of being a big beer drinker. If he thought he was not going to be called on, he would have a couple of 6 packs of beer stashed in the bullpen and could easily drink both of them during a game. Anyway, Mel had pitched in the last two games and was sure he wouldn't be called on, so he began drinking his beer early in the game. In the bottom of the 14th inning Milwaulkee had loaded the bases. The score was tied 3 to 3 with 2 outs. Houston had used every available pitcher except for Mel. The manager had to send him into the game. Mel was a little tipsy, but went in knowing that he could save the day. He immediately pitched 4 straight balls and walked in the winning run.

After the game two of the Milwaulkee players were walking by the Houston bullpen and noticed the 12 empty beer cans. One of them said, "Will you look at that......beer shouldn't be allowed on the playing field. " The other player said, " Don't knock it.....that's the beer that made Mel Famey walk us."

@ElStudHoncho,
The first time I heard the story you just told, Elstud, I was so young and laughed so hard that I kicked the slats out of my cradle. It was clever. Plus our family is originally from WI.
For those of you who don't catch the joke:
