Personally, i think this goes back to WWI (from which the Nazi symbol rose in the German military and in which Hitler took part in a major way)

And we are now seeing the result of three generations of war-trauma

someone's got to put a rein on it

@okie,
I doubt that a simplistic comparison of phraseology helps you a lot in determining the degree of socialism in National Socialism. Eastern Germany called itself the "German Democratic Republic". Do you think that it was, in fact, a democratic republic?

The same goes for the Nazis. They paid lip service to some ideas and concepts stolen from the left, but the underlying concept (as evidenced when they got to power) had about as much in common with socialism as the German Democratic Republic had in common with a democratic republic.

@Montana,
My assessment of you, Montana, is that are not in fact an idealogue, as so many posters are here on this forum and like forums, but you have swallowed the pop culture main stream media interpretation of events, and the hate Bush / blame America first mantra that is so evident out there. I suggest you talk to some people that have a balanced view of things, and use your own head for a change. And most of all, educate yourself on history, think for yourself, and quit regurgitating the garbage out there. Or pick different friends if they are feeding you this nonsense.

Why should she listen to you? Did she ask for your advice?
What makes you think you know what's good for her? Why don't you think more about the situation in Gaza (note the title of this thread) and stop worrying about other people's morals being different to yours.

@old europe,
oe, you are repeating the common escape argument here, I realize that, and you have a large portion of intelligentsia that agree with you, I also realize that, but be aware also that a large number of people and body of thought, and history disputes your argument. I can read too, and it is part of the historic record that Hitler did in fact rise to power through a coalition of the labor movement and young people, socialistic in thinking. Eerily similar to other ruthless dictators that have come on the scene, Hitler railed against greed, pure capitalism, and he empasized power of the people, mixed it with nationalism. As a matter of note, it made me very uneasy to hear the masses in Denver at Obama's acceptance speech, singing "power to the people."

There are in fact many similarities between what gave rise to Hitler and what is giving rise to the new left. The main difference is that nationalism of Germany is being replaced with a sort of nationalism of the world. Oddly, and again, the Jews are being marginalized once again as they become more isolated politically, with dwindling support among other nations.

My apologies for elaborating on Hitler, but MONTANA brought it up, trying to compare Bush to Hitler, and somebody needs to refute this nonsense.

@okie,
Laughing You make me laugh Okie! I have always, and I mean always been an independent thinker and have never been one to let others influence me. I don't get my information from talking with people other than opinions and you have absolutely no clue as to what I know about history.

You guys keep making me correct your own lies about me, yet you think you can convince people to listen to your bullshit!

If I was standing alone fighting for the people in Gaza, I'd still fight!

I don't pretend to know what makes you tick and I wonder why you would pretend to know what I'm made of, especially when you're always wrong.

I'm not here because countless of others are here feeling the same as I do, they were already here when I walked in.

@Frank Apisa,

Judging from your recent post here on A2K it is clear that you are living in a bubble that totally insulates you from reality.
Your thoughts and opinions are out of touch, sad and meaningless.

@okie,
It is just ridiculous to accuse the UN of having Palestinian militants shoot from their headquarters thus justifying the attack of the UN headquarters by Israel.

As for your other contention about Bush's poll numbers, perhaps you should get out more.

Quote:
As President Bush prepares to leave office, three quarters of Americans have a parting thought: "Good riddance."

Asked their view of President Bush at the end of his presidency, 75 percent said they are glad he is leaving, according to a CNN-Opinion Research Corporation poll taken in December. Only 23 percent said they will miss him.

It's been like a failed marriage. Things started out well. When President Bush first took office, more than 60 percent saw him as strong and decisive.

That impression was re-enforced after the September 11, 2001,attacks when the president stood at Ground Zero and declared, "The people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon.'' View iconic images from the Bush presidency ยป

Bush's image of resolve got him re-elected in 2004, when terrorism was the dominant concern. More than 60 percent of Americans continued to see Bush as strong and decisive when he started his second term in 2005.

No more. There is a fine line between resolve and stubbornness, and Bush seems to have crossed it.

Now only 45 percent consider Bush a strong leader.
