@PoliteMight,
I believe the points made being as they appear to be, based in a misunderstanding of the dispute, can be answered as follows:
Israel is Re-established within the Jewish ancestral homeland. Internationally-recognized history shows that the last indigenous sovereign state in the land of Israel (Roman-imposed name “Palestine”), prior to the RE-establishment of Israel in 1948, was the post-Biblical Jewish Hasmonean Kingdom. It included (what is now erroneously referred to as) the “West Bank” (correct description Judah and Samaria), and also Gaza, and the Golan Heights. Capital (of what is now referred to as East) Jerusalem / “Old City”; between 110 BCE / 754 BH and 63 BCE / 706 BH - Map:

The first paragraph of contributor 'PoliteMight's" post refers to the USS Liberty incident of 1967, so just to be clear, the attack was accidental and due to error in war time, as follows:

“The June 21 [1967, CIA] memorandum is a point-by-point analysis of Israeli inquiry findings of fact. It concludes: “The attack was not made in malice toward the U.S. and was by mistake, but the failure of the IDF Headquarters and the attacking aircraft to identify the [USS] Liberty and the subsequent attack by torpedo boats were both incongruous and indicative of gross negligence.” ”
