i wrote something..

Ark in the Woods

The boy runs from the house

Chased by the voice of the monster

Tearing along the moonlit lane

Turned by lunatic wind howled mad at his back

Low clouds sweep overhead, stark as ghosts

He hits the field gate hard, rattling chain and hinges

One boot slapping down.... and over

Rolling into meadow grass, tumbling white flowers of hemlock

A bird hidden close by, rises

Tall plume of black smoke burning yellow-eyed from cover

Flapping wings fan a startled heart

The boy falls back, open-palmed

Then races on, ducking into the waiting woods

Slowing to a stop, in the shade of a solid beech rib-cage

Alone on the sharp path, listening to the trees

A bat flicks by, caught silver for a beat, and gone

Writhing shadows swim, grabbing at his boots

Silent ripples of light play chaos

A snapping twig has him frozen in a crouch

Above, the moon floats. A wild witness

He doesn't look it in the eye

Thick black beams dance back and forth, with maritime creeeeeeak

Calmed by the sway, he remembers

Leaving the path behind

Passing dead-end vines and thorns of twisted barricades

Skirting clumps of nettles, swayed by settling breeze

He knows the feel of the trees that are his signposts

Presses a hand to their sides, in greeting each

He follows

Deeper into their stillness of narrowed, misty light

Treading their roots, as steps leading

On, into the denser dark, feeling the ground dip

Sliding under webs of brambles, entwined

The earth-smell

Of untouched life, drawing him into its secret

A clearing, marshy, teased by the moon

Moss stones lie like heads of ancient warriors, long dead

He runs to the great tree and reaches out

Stretching hands find the best holds unseen in the gloom

Up, up he climbs

Pausing above the heaviest branches

Working slowly, as tiredness unwinds, breathless

High above the earth's pungency, cool air meets him

Edging along the shouldered seat of smooth bark

Finally, to rest, to sink in this familiar groove

The waiting rope, to harness

He is held, thirty feet above the ground

The clouds have moved on, leaving black pitch

Stars pierce his heart

Their lonely lights of splendid brilliance revealed

Now at last, he can watch the moon sail majestic

Passing over his upturned face, bathed in sleep

A bright, intriguing sphere

No evil can touch him here. No evil can touch him here

@Endymion,
Hey ((E))

could feel that fear... when you are waken from a nightmare, or dream a nightmare and you wake up with your heart racing... trying to slow dow, scared to move, breathe, eyes wide open.. i used to have those thoughts, still do I guess, what would I do if I were being chased... or running from my the spinning thoughts in the dark...

your word

"frozen"

excellent writing, fears out loud...

I nightmared 2 afternoons ago... frozen... then ok, phew.

been thinking of our dear Noddy who has been gone for just under 2 years - felt like she was yakking at me today Wink Been lost in my head for a couple days

no stars tonight - quiet, misty, deep, alsmost earthy outside

Hi EhBeth, Letty, Izzie and anyone looking in

Thank you all for reading my....well, i'm not really sure what it is - poem/ballad/story

Here's the freaky part --i wrote it as a kind of (and I hesitate, even on this thread to use the word) 'spell', but that is exactly what it is.

I'm not sure my writing has changed greatly, but i know the way I think about writing has. I think of what i do in a different way - more like art than writing, and hopefully, art that has the potential to help heal. That is my reason for doing it now. (I know how ludicrous that must sound, but i believe it. I need to believe I can be of some use).

Thank you for sharing my writing trials with me, I appreciate your interest.
And yes, I miss Noddy - who understood the symbolism part so well.

I hope you (and anyone reading this) have a good weekend.

Thinking of the Friendly Freaks (UK versions as well as all of the others) a lot in the last few days. Mebbe it's the ten pounds of carrots I just bought, mebbe it's the weather or the night sky.

Thinking of you.

@ehBeth,
10 pounds of carrots, Beth?
That's a lot of carrots! Even for a Friendly Freak! Smile
So what are your plans for them?
I'll bet a carrot cake (amongst many other goodies) is on the menu. (I love carrot cake!)

@Endymion,
hello dear ((((e))))

i've been absent a bit - but your poem from long ago is in my kitchen now and i think of you every day

It's gotten cold now endy... the leaves have started falling, have you been out walking at all? Autumn has arrived and the last rays of summer sunshine are going all to quickly. i love the autumn tho - all the different colours of browns, auburns, burgundies, greens and pale yellows, orange...

i'm hoping you're feeling better, comfortable in your house and that you'll have plenty of wood for the fire as the nights draw in.

sending you love (((((((((((((e))))))))))))) xx

@Izzie,
Oh gee'z that's pretty prose.

I really mean that.

~~~~
I'm not sure what Beth and Endy talked about that prompted her to think of Endy whenever root vegetables abound, but she's mentioned it a few times... and the result has been that now, whenever I think of carrots, etc, I think of Beth! Laughing
~~~

Mmmmm. Carrot cake. Smile

Hey Endy - hmmmmmm...

Went up to London to see something really special to me - Les Miserables - then pottered around the town in the early hours - was at the Houses of Parliament, and tho architecturally and photographically beautiful - the bitter pill is knowing what it represents and who's inside it - not being a lover of 'the sytem' it seems a shame to fill a building with muppets, ya know! However, maybe you'll take a looksee...

been out a bit lately and finding some peace

went walking with the little fella to Burrator, crunchy leaves

I reckon youda liked the trees there - it was so quiet

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk41/LzzieIzzie/whatever/DSC03541.jpg

and moss... moss everywhere, centuries of rocks, depth, felt as tho I had standing quietly beside me the whole time, towering strength

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk41/LzzieIzzie/whatever/DSC03553.jpg

i hope you are... i hope you have some peace at the moment

it's going to be gorgeous tomorrow - sunny with an autumnal chill - think i may go watch leaves fall in the Izzie's bubbleworld
