Its gotten so bad that we are almost reduced to begging the Chinese to loan us more money, and promising that we will get the deficits under control, that is after the deficits are enlarged to historically unprecedented proportions, that according to tax cheat, Geithner. A little like "Hey mom and dad, I'll pay you back someday, after you loan me the money for the new sportscar, and maybe take a year off in Europe, I'll get a job when I feel like it and pay you back right away.," To which Mom and Dad says, "sure, right, kid," we believe you, ha ha, will your job even pay the interest, let alone buy any groceries????!!!!!

Coming back to this thread much later on.

GM went bankrupt and has emerged from same.

All the taxpayer money spent to prevent GM from going bankrupt was wasted.

These are facts.

Review this thread and take heed of those who argued that GM could not be allowed to go bankrupt.

Everyone is entitled to be wrong from time to time, but their errors should be factored in your equation around their credibility.

How much do you want to bet that these same persons argued that we had to pass the Stimulus Package within a matter of weeks, and now contend that we must enact ObamaCare within the next 60 days?

I want healthcare, but congress can't wipe it's own ass properly in a hurry, let alone get this right.

it needs to be slowed down and done correctly, IMHO.

Careful Rock. You're in mortal danger of being in agreement with the dreaded conservative Republicans with that line of thought. Smile

Rush is reporting this morning that the car dealers have been pushed out on a limb, now the government sawing it off. After they book advertising, based upon the program lasting for the next few months, government is pulling rug out from under them. Now when customers come in and want to trade in a clunker, what does the dealer tell them, and how do they pull their ad spending? Obama keeps changing the rules, his computers can't handle the program, he is "failing."

Face it people, Obama's programs are duds, Obama is a dud, and how in the world does anyone think he can manage their health care?

The clunker program is a boondoggle!

The AP spoke too soon - the WH reports that the program will not be suspended, and CNBC sez Congress is poised to add another 2B to the program due to it's popularity.

Don't let that get in the way of you guys knocking Obama and the Dems, though.

CNBC, one of GE's three media sources, is under orders to say nothing about anything that could be cause for criticism of the President or any of the programs he supports. Rush is using the most current information out there today.

From a less blatantly biased source:

Cash for clunkers program may be running on empty

By KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer Ken Thomas, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON " The government's popular "cash for clunkers" program may be running out of money after only a matter of days as car shoppers flock to dealerships to take advantage of the rebates.

The White House said Thursday it was assessing its options amid concerns the $1 billion budget for rebates for new car sales may have been depleted. The program officially began last week and has been heavily publicized by automakers and dealers.

Transportation Department officials called lawmakers earlier Thursday to alert them of plans to suspend the program as early as Friday. But a White House official said later the program had not been suspended and they were reviewing their options to keep the program funded.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said they were working to "assess the situation facing what is obviously an incredibly popular program. Auto dealers and consumers should have confidence that all valid CARS transactions that have taken place to date will be honored."

Dubbed the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, the program offers owners of old cars and trucks $3,500 or $4,500 toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle, in exchange for scrapping their old vehicle. Congress last month approved the plan to boost auto sales and remove some inefficient cars and trucks from the roads.

The program was scheduled to last through Nov. 1 or until the money ran out, but few predicted it would be depleted in days. Through late Wednesday, 22,782 vehicles had been purchased through CARS and nearly $96 million had been spent.

But dealers raised concerns about large backlogs in the processing of the deals in the government system. A survey of 2,000 dealers by the National Automobile Dealers Association found about 25,000 deals had not yet been approved by the government, or nearly 13 trades per store.

It suggested that with about 23,000 dealers taking part in the program, car dealers may already have surpassed the 250,000 vehicle sales funded by the $1 billion program.

"There's a significant backlog of 'cash for clunkers' deals that make us question how much funding is still available in the program," said Bailey Wood, a spokesman for the dealers association.

The reports that the CARS program could be suspended created confusion among many dealers, who had showrooms filled with car shoppers looking to scrap their gas guzzlers.

Alan Helfman, general manager of River Oaks Chrysler Jeep in Houston, said he was worried that the government wouldn't pay for some of his clunker deals. His dealership has completed paperwork on about 20 sales under the program, but in some cases the titles haven't been obtained yet or the vehicles aren't on his lot.

"There's no doubt I'm going to get hammered on a deal or two," Helfman said

So the dealers have already expended their advertising on this program. They can't pull back the newspaper ads. They can't unsay what is already out on the radio. What do they do now? Trust that the government will infuse the program with more money? Honor the offer in their ads from this point even if the government does suspend the program and they won't be reimbursed?

Sure looks like being out there on a limb to me, and if the government isn't 'sawing it off' there is certainly good reason to believe they are poised with a chainsaw already fired up.

Bullshit. This is nothing but base speculation on your part, and it isn't supported by the facts, b/c I've personally seen many CNBC hosts knock Obama and the programs he supports. You're talking out your ass on this one, just like Rush is.

Sorry, but you are the one making the positive claim, it's up to you to provide proof of it. That O'reilly clip is not proof of anything at all, other than the fact that you choose to get your news from a nutjob like O'reilly.

@Cycloptichorn,
Sorry but I did provide support for my comment. Now, discredit if you can. Your opinion that it isn't credible just isn't good enough if you can't support your claim that CNBC is knocking Obama about anything.

Here's some additional sources to support my point of view:

And it apparently began at this meeting in May:

There's nothing to discredit. O'reilly didn't provide proof, just his opinion. Most of the O'Reilly clip revolves around attacking MSNBC for something one of their guests said, which is a little off the topic and ridiculous.

You are the one making a positive claim, the burden lies on YOU to back it up. Unless you can come up with something better than a Fox News suspicion that GE has passed down such orders, you don't have any proof.

Not that I have any real need to prove anything to you at all, Fox. If you want to believe that GE has sent out orders not to knock Obama, you are going to believe it no matter what I say, because you buy into such tripe as that. But I highly doubt you are convincing anyone else here other than yourself.

@Cycloptichorn,
I've backed it up with three sources and a fourth relating a meeting where it began.

Where is your source to back up your claim that CNBC has bashed the President or his programs since May?

Or will you admit you are talking through your hat because you won't admit the truth of anything critical anybody says about your messiah or those who support him?

Foxfyre, is it enough for you to mention the dreaded word, "impeachment" and agree with ican? Also is it too early to mention the word,"fascist?" Isn't that what that included, the government using business interests, manipulating it, etc. for their leftist idealogy?

I don't have a source showing that CNBC has 'bashed the prez' since May, but I have seen it with my own eye on television.

All three of your 'sources' are based on rank speculation and none of them links to any actual proof. The NY Post piece uses an anonymous source and the other two are reporting on a shareholder meeting, where people were pissed over comments made on MSNBC by guests. None of this is proof of what you are claiming, at all; just speculation by the right-wing.

Obama isn't my or anyone's 'messiah,' and you make yourself look like a fool every time you write that. It's basically an admission on your part that your argument has broken down to the point where you are forced to start attempting to insult people to continue it.

To get back to the original issue: the WH sez that the CARS program is still ongoing, reports of it's demise are exaggerated, and it's mostly being used to attack the Prez and the Dems in Congress by Republicans, because they like doing that sort of thing.
