Did he do it because he is gay? Did he do it because he thought it was the right thing to do? If he did it to another country would he be seen as a hero? Why? Why not show the corruption of your own country? If he did do it because he is gay, I would like to see many more gay people standing up for truth no matter how inconvenient it may be.

Where is the gay community when it comes to standing up for whistle blowing of immorality? I am afraid that they may be more consumed on other issues concerning gay rights. If we are not going to address all rights why should gay rights be any different?

@reasoning logic,
Russia hasn't got a very good track record regarding gay rights RL. There's probably lots of reasons Manning did what he did, but I don't think being gay had anything to do with it.

I am divided on this and the Julian Assange thing. My initial feeling is Manning committed a serious crime. I certainly don't support his actions just because he is gay.

I hate these wars but I even more so hate terrorism and religious invasion into our constitution... I prefer our elected officials negotiate our position, not anonymous and others who are afraid to even reveal their identities. I am divided but I lean on the side of elected government and not rebels and fear mongers. The recent news of Exxon Mobil's emails being hacked I just have to laugh and relish the moment. Our corporations are not elected officials and their dirty dealing in our government I see as much more of a treasonous act than a thousand Bradley Mannings.

I find Teapublican racism and obstructionism more detrimental to our democracy and world image than wikileaks.

@RexRed,
It only proves the old adage that bigotry only goes underground when enough "real" Americans don't tolerate it. We now have crazies on talk radio-tv shows and even in our government who call our president a liar, and claim "Obama is the most dangerous president."

They are blind to their own candidate's habitual lying.

There's no cure for st.....

@Foxfyre,
It's true but the thing is that we have to take note that most of the population of the Californian citizens are most likely Christians. So naturally there would be a more popular vote to ban gay marraige.

California "Christians" hoodwinked my cultish Mormon big money, only shows they are more weak minded fools than Christian... Why read the good book when they can learn their Christianity from the couch watching political TV advertisements?

Nope, not Christians, something "other"... Let's hope they have had a few years to wise up...

Once while speaking to a Mormon missionary I said, "But the Bible says such and such." and she replied, "I don't care what the Bible says..." Christians?

@RexRed,
As far as I'm aware, he didn't divulge anything that would endanger national security, he just made some very ugly truths public.

In any event, his treatment has been barbaric since.

The punishment should match the severity of the crime. Embarrassment of public officials doesn't really count that much in that regard. They should keep their emails clean if they don't want to be embarrassed. I believe he did release Iraq operations data... That is a biggie.

The parents of dead soldiers may hold him responsible and never relent till they get justice.

@RexRed,
At the same time his punishment should be in keeping with the rest of the prisoners. His treatment has been particularly harsh, solitary confinement and isolation etc.

I don't know, I detest brutality and torture... but I do know treason carries the death penalty so Manning is perhaps fortunate to even be alive considering the severity of his crime. I don't like to hear of anybody being subject to such circumstances but he brought it upon himself in a sly and seriously underhanded way and there is the rule of law to consider. We are the UNITED states of America not the Anarchy States... His acts were apparently egregious, I am not a judge and jury so I cannot really say for sure.

Just like the Trey Martin case, I feel very bad for Trey Martin and his grieving parents but I also feel bad for Zimmerman.

Just before Trey was killed he went into a convenience store and never even put down his hood... It is automatic reflex, most people put down their hood when entering a store. I have witnessed it before standing at the door of a convenience store, people walk up to the door of a store and put down their hood. It is required in most banks too. No sunglasses, hoods or hats allowed...

It is an automatic reflex to put down the hood out of "common courtesy" Trey apparently did not (at least that time) have this basic common courtesy.

As for George Zimmerman, there is enough believable conjecture out floating around in the press to indicate he is/was considerably racist. So you put someone with little or no common courtesy with a rank hateful racist with a gun and this is what you get...

I was once a clerk at a convenience store and was held up at gun point, not by a black man but by a Hispanic 17 year old kid. That is what he did, he walked into the store with his hood up (so I could not see his face) and then came to the counter and said, "You are going to sell me cigarettes." I refused because he could show me no age verification. He came back with his buddy hiding out back of the store at 3AM when I was alone and tried to rob the store. I grabbed the gun out of his hands, picked him right up, kicked the door open and threw him out of the store. Then called the police.

I am not going out on a limb, I don't know all of the circumstances. I wear a hoodie a lot, winter as an undercoat and most of the summer when it is not too hot. I ALWAYS put down my hood out of respect when walking into a store and I am also not a racist... It is terrible this young man is dead... Life is so very precious and his poor parents are suffering horribly from this tragedy. My heart genuinely goes out to them in their tears and pain...

I say, I will not react out of ignorance... let a judge and jury decide these cases when all of the facts have been presented. I remain basically neutral...

As for Florida's gun law, that is most obviously and without any doubt, WRONG... Another reason to vote out each and every teapublican...

I am not sure all of what he released but it does appear that he shed some light on the lies that our government engages in. I think that there should be a lot more transparency in our government than there is. I know that we have all been taught that secrecy is very important but I think that that type of thinking should be questioned just like if someone told me that being gay is wrong. You have to prove to me with evidence that transparency is a bad thing just as you would have to prove being gay is wrong.
