So you think the US should base its laws to be compatible with 7th century Arabic culture?

No, I think a countries leaders should have more brains than to follow fashion . The attachment of rights to marriage swayed a stupid and gullible public . What if it was called marriage theft, I wonder what sort of support it would have got ?
75,000 yrs of heterosexual marriage and homosexuals have to steal it . We have had other societies where homosexuals had rights and none of those wanted marriage .

Why does it have to be called marriage ? Isnt this some sort of in your face "we're queer, we're here" to heterosexual couples ? Why wouldnt homosexuals be happy with the same rights but a different name ?

Mostly because of legal reasons. If you change the name to something else, then lawyers can claim that they are not covered under the law because it doesn't say marriage and the law specifically refers to the word marriage.

The whole problem is the government shouldn't even be in the business of marriage in the first place. It should be a non-issue. But we clearly are still in the growing phase of humanity. All this anti-gay stuff is a complete parallel to the anti-black stuff that was happening in the 50s when blacks were deciding they had enough and demanded their rights.

Nope . We havent done anything that wasnt done before . The Greeks new they had caused soil loss by cutting down trees, the Chinese and Japanese introduced laws to re-establish natural areas, as did Britain over a thousand years ago . Homosexuals had full equality under law in Greece, but no one wanted marriage . Societies go through homosexual stages every now and then, such as the wig and make up era but no one has ever been stupid enough to try to marry the same sex together for 75,000 years .

Not sure that is very accurate. I know in Japan, many samurai had boy toys. Some they would even marry and take as concubines. If you don't believe that you can research it. It's common knowledge. That didn't happen 75,000 years ago. Try around the 15th century.

@Krumple,
I forget the name of the siege, but the Samurai commander was concerned that his troops were spending more time worrying about who was now sleeping with whom than they were worried about the enemy . They did not marry between homosexuals but yes they did have them as unofficial concubines .

Homosexual Marriage will solve a lot of problems where people were going through unnecessary trauma...that is a good thing, but on the down side I just wish they had used a compromise such as a name change . This is not over by any means .

@reasoning logic,
Augustus was the first to pass anti-homosexual laws . The Roman Emperors, Constans and Constantius II (the sons of Constantine), in 342, outlawed homosexuality specifically . In 529, Justinian's code outlawed homosexuality in the Byzantine Empire. Many of these attacks on homosexuals were based on other aims . Augustus's Laws were a part of anti-promiscuity laws; Constantine's sons were trying to eliminate Aryan thought under the prompting of the Church; Justinian was paying penance and wanted to remove corrupt bishops . Hoover was homosexual but wanted to eliminate communists . All of these political leaders found homosexuality was an easy charge to forge .

Having homosexuality in the closet makes for an easy target as far as blackmailing for espionage is concerned . Out in the open, homosexuals are just as loyal to their country as any one else . Ironically, attacking homosexuals made them more vulnerable to enemy spies, not less .

The only reason homosexuality is banned in the OT is because certain temples offered homosexual prostitutes and the Priests were worried the Hebrews would leave Judaism .

Those same temples offered female prostitutes too so why is heterosexuality not also banned?

Guess you did not think of that.

Homophobes, the same yesterday as they are today.

@RexRed,
No, different temples represented gods and had different myths about the behaviour of those gods . Some did have female prostitutes and some had male prostitutes but they were worried homosex was more attractive whereas heterosex was just getting some extra, which was reasonable to them .

One temple dedicated to Diana had women sit on the steps and have sex with a total stranger . Ugly women would wait for weeks . That was also banned .

Homophobic is another term invented by one of the many homosexuals in the entertainment/advertising/law industries . Along with Marriage Rights, instead of Marriage Theft, it was quite a clever piece of propaganda . If someone doesn't like homosexuality, call them homophobic . What about calling someone heterophobic if they dont like heterosex ?
