Yeah, I've seen that a few times: Someone posts an eloquent statement, only to have it bogged down & sidetracked by pedantic arguments over minor points. It would drive me crazy to have that happening so often! Evil or Very Mad But I suspect there are many A2Kers who enjoy the cut & thrust of it all ..

I also have high blood pressure and I gotta keep myself on the cool side.

Of course some of the people obviously love to argue since they spend all their time in political threads. Some people I've seen only in politics.

LOL! I visit all the time, but, considering myself no expert on politics - especially American politics - I read much, and comment little. Very odd for me - well, not so much in politics, as almost everyone I know considers themselves political experts - or are actively employed in the field, one way or the other - so I tend to become tired of politics over here.

I generally do not mind the rough and tumble - though some posters reliably get my blood pressure pumping - silly, huh?

What's interesting is that a lot of the political posters here at A2K are from another discussion site, Abuzz, but that one had ceased to be moderated, and soon flamers took over that site's political forums. Those forums went to pot over there.

Over there, the Israel/Palestine debates rage on like the political ones do here, but the flamers haven't gotten to those forums, or are just not interested in that topic, gladly.

Here, there isn't much discussion of I/P, which is my interest, and US politics is a bit too dualistic for my liking. Manichaeism is alive and well in the U.S. of A.

I/P????? Oh - international politics!

Please - DO start some! The majority of posters here seem to be from the US, but not all of us are - and some of the US folk are very knowledgable about and interested in international stuff.

I start Oz stuff from time to time - but we really ARE a closed book to most Americans - and Europeans too!

Go for it! People will come.

Cut and thrust is one thing... but I am easily bored by the cut and paste of it all.

It is too easy to agree with a pundit and regurgitate than it is to do critical thinking of one's own...

I'm just puuting me 2 cents in, a couple of time/day.
It's obviously masochism, since I'm more on the political threads the less some is annoying me here.

Or something like that.

International Politics is very interesting for all here ... as long as it is US-politics.

Yes, yes, I know exactly what you mean, SealPoet! Your eyes sort of glaze over when one of those L - O - N -G cut & paste jobs stare you in the face!

That's the problem with US politics... too many anti-social Democrats. And anti-social Republicans...

(oh poot! I'm digging myself into a deeper hole here aren't I? Yes, Walter I'm aware that you live, proudly, in 'Old Europe'.)

The other sort of post that makes my eyes glaze over is the introductory one, consisting of a lengthy article & nothing else! So, what do you want me to do with this then, it makes me wonder? Rolling Eyes

Yes to both, msolga. With both, the most I usually do is scroll past and see if the paste work produced any interesting comments. As a general rule, I note the name of the last respondent. There are perhaps 4 or 5 who will always draw me in, and roughly the same number that turn me away. I will spend time on the others, or not, depending on my current level of boredom.

Not at all. Somebody wants to participate, but has nothing to say, let 'em paste away. Nobody is obliged to read it, and it sounds like few do.

The quote within a quote within a quote within a quote posters drive me potty. Get to the point!

Then again, I think a lot of the posters in politics have one point to make, made it several months ago, and have nothing new to offer. That's on both sides of the miniscule U.S. political spectrum. Good grief - arguing about angles of right is just NOT that interesting.

Occasionally if someone seems to be posting something that's just, well, silly, I'll say something. But usually, I just pop in once in a while to see if anyone's had a new idea. Usually without any success.

There's enough puffed up egotists on the political threads to raise the Titanic.
