...speaking of....when I saw the cartoon with the monkey, I didn't get the racism at first. I don't automatically associate monkeys with a slur against blacks. I associate it with stupid people. I had to read to "get it"...and I still think it's better NOT to make/"get" the racist association.

in my case, i didn't get the humour in the cartoon, because frankly it wasn't funny

i didn't jump to a racist intent immediately, but certainly saw were that could be one interpretation
