@mysteryman,
The ad hominem fallacy is alive and well.

That Hamas endorses Obama tells you nothing about Obama.

Trust is commutative.

I trust my wife. My wife trusts her dad. I trust my wife's dad.

Distrust breaks the chain.

I don't trust my neighbor. My neighbor endorses McCain. My neighbor's opinion about McCain affects me not at all.

I don't trust Hamas. Hamas endorses Obama. My opinion about Obama changes not at all.

See how that works?

McCain's people finally get the message and do something right.

Video: Republican Muslims fight back against rhetoric at McCain event

If anyone can figure out how to embed the video here, please do and tell me how you did it since it isn't a flash swf file.

@Butrflynet,
No, and your attempt at sarcasm failed.

In the story you linked to, ONE MAN was stating his opinion.
In the Hamas support for Obama, the WHOLE organization supports Obama.

Now, if the whole communist party supported McCain, you might have a good point.

@Cycloptichorn,
So if I find the same story from other sources, then you will believe it?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2008/05/13/2008-05-13_barack_obama_understands_hamas_view.html

Quote:
Last month, Ahmed Yousef, a political adviser to the militant Palestinian group, told an interviewer on WABC radio that "We like Mr. Obama" and "we hope that he will win the election."

But, here is one tiny bit of the story that CNN seems to have overlooked. On April 16th, Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Prime Minister of Hamas, did indeed endorse Barack Obama in an interview on WABC radio.

Our friends over at Powerline posted the audio of the interview where the Hamas operative expressed his admiration for Obama and his hopes that Obama wins the upcoming election.

On Sunday, Aaron Klein and John Batchelor interviewed Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Prime Minister of Hamas, on WABC radio. The interview produced a scoop which, for some reason, has not been widely publicized: Hamas has endorsed Barack Obama for President. Yousef said, "We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election." Why? "He has a vision to change America." Maybe Yousef has some insight into what Obama means by all these vague references to "change."

And here...
http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2008/04/020315.php

You will hear the actual audio of the interview with the Hamas spokesman, endorsing Obama.

So for you to claim that its only Fox news making the story up just isnt true.

Listen to the audio yourself, then decide.

@mysteryman,
Ad hominem is still ad hominem.

If Charles Manson endorses McCain, would that mean anything? No.

If Hamas supports Obama, does that mean anything? No.

For any cause or politician, you can find idiots that are supporters. Claiming that the idiots are representative, or imply some defect, is a logical fallacy.

@DrewDad,
I claimed nothing of the kind.
The point I was trying to make, albeit poorly, was that it is reasonable to wonder what Obama said or did that would cause Hamas to support him.

Did he give them any reason to think that he would support their position regarding Israel, and if so, what was it.

IMO, those are reasonable questions.
I am in no way calling or even suggesting that Obama is a terrorist.
Let me repeat that, I do not think, believe, or suggest that Obama is a terrorist.

@mysteryman,
Dude, Newsbusters and Powerline are Fox News, just under different names. Hacks. Hardly impartial.

More importantly, though, you seem to have difficulty understanding causality and the direction of moment. The fact that Hamas says something about Obama doesn't mean anything about him at all. My point wasn't that Fox News was lying and making up the story, my point was that they were butchering the analysis.

Al Qaeda is supporting McCain on their websites; does that mean that McCain has done or will do anything positive for them? Nope.

Having done some research, your statement is not quite correct, and I think you knew that.
I dont think you actually thought I would look for myself.

Al Qaeda-linked website backs McCain as president
5:05PM Wednesday Oct 22, 2008
WASHINGTON - Al-Qaeda supporters suggested in a website message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.

The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah website, said if Al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, Al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."

Quote:
"If Al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."

So according to the article I linked to, it isnt actually AQ itself, just one person posting on an AQ website.

BTW, the article is from a New Zealand newspaper, not a US source.
So you cant claim its a biased source.
