On reflection it is the exaggeration of the decade bearing in mind that "very little" is measureable.

I can find wisdom in your comment along with a little mental masturbation trying to prop up your ego! But don't we all find pleasure in mentally masturbating in one way or another?

I don't see how fm can enjoy "mental masturbation". He uses the term as an insult as he also does real masturbation and the taking in of the nectar of the Gods. Your remark obviously ridicules him doing so. And rightly so.

But it's too easy really to use ad homs like that and it betrays an anti-intellectual attitude imo.

And an anti-A2K attitude as well. Indeed, an anti-debate attitude. I certainly wouldn't entertain discussions in the pub with anybody who trotted it out as an all-purpose reflex when stumped.

I must admit that "mental masturbation" is an interesting usage. It has been applied to my posts on numerous occasions by anti-IDers.

One of these days my sensitive ego might be goaded enough for me to write a short post teasing out the unconscious associations involved in employing such a term to designate a weakness, or even a disgraceful, aspect in my posts.

So if anti-IDers would like to read such a post they might be advised to continue goading me with the expression to see if my ego-sensitivity threshold can be reached on a day when I am not busy and am feeling in an enhanced scientific frame of mind.

It must always be borne in mind that critical thinking and dispassionate empirical observation are not always to everyone's taste. Applying such intellectual tools to rock formations and their contents is acceptable enough on most occasions but one should beware of general applications and particularly in mixed company.

They are worried they might be out-evolved . They hope religious people are not breeding . That and they spend too much time thinking about sex and not enough time doing it...perhaps they are already dying out due to inability to attract a mate....

Out evolved is not the same as selected out. They won't be selected out. They have sperm banks where the future little 1/2 lads and lassies spend an unspecified period at --196 degrees centigrade ( 77 K for scientists and 321 degrees for ex-colonials [I wonder if colony derives from the same root as colon]. At normal atmospheric pressure I mean. Give or take a bit unless a tornado is going through or a rotary vacuum pump applied to get a solid chunk.).
