Look Joe-- "awkward (wrong word) construction" has a function in English expression. It is a form of esotericism. Mine was a very mild version. It was aimed at those who don't find it "awkward". Those whose attention span can last out four lines. Don't try Proust Joe.

For some reason, I don't really know why, the idea that French is merely awkward construction of the English language strikes me as funny.

@spendius,
Maybe you are correct Spendius. Does this young man seem to understand truth?

@wandeljw,
Is it not obvious wande that the sunshine, from which all life derives its energy, is periodic. That we call a cycle 24 hours has nothing to do with anything biological. And the cycle is variable except for a statistically infinitessimal equatorial line and even that might vary with variations in earth tilt and orbit changes due to conjunctions of the planets or even objects further out.

The research may have great value in relation to activity of humans who have disrupted natural cycles by such things as lighting, air conditioning and rapid transit methods. I think the analogy with clocks is unscientific and likely to mislead readers. A clock measures the sun

I can't see any relevance to the teaching of evolution. A daisy keeps what looks like time to us but it isn't doing. It might not be as spectacular as a dinosaur but there's a lot more of them and they are still with us. One might say that daisies are more beautiful as well because they have no anal sphincter. I often think it is difficult to assign beauty to an organism with one of those and that doing so is something of an illusion.

I hope all this scientific expertise and taxpayer's involuntary funding doesn't end up proving that there's no place like home and that the ads on telly and in the travel agent's glossy brochures are dangerous to health as I think they are.

@reasoning logic,
Nope. He's obviously fascinated by how much an American accent coupled with a resonant voice can give seeming integrity to the most banal statements.

See NFL commentary and comment and the number of ads on English TV which rely on that method.

Simply by singing Blowin' in the Wind in a strong Lancashire accent I can get a pub full of folk laughing.

@reasoning logic,
No. The pub would be empty if there were. Our ladies are much closer to the evolutionary ideal.

But I notice that Ms Scott stressed the importance of the consequences of decisions. So the video might be of use to some anti-IDers.

@spendius,
What is the evolutionary ideal woman in your opinion, A woman who is not a critical thinker?

@reasoning logic,
Where would you find a woman who is not a critical thinker? On the misogynist's pedestal I suppose is the answer to that.

I hope you don't think that what you think critical thinking should think about is all there is to be thought about critically.

I'll let Laurence Sterne answer your question when he has Uncle Toby fall in love.

Quote:
------And possibly, gentle reader, with such a temptation--so woulds't thou: For never did thy eyes behold, or thy concupisence covet any thing in this world, more concupiscible than widow Wadman.

He then left two pages blank and invited the reader to describe her for himself. "Paint her to your own mind". Possibly the reason he describes the bewitching nature of her eyes is that he thought his readers might not be able to manage that.

I don't suppose your critical thinking tutors ever put Tristram Shandy in your hand. They would probably rather be expansive on the joys of critical thinking without bothering to actually get down to doing any.

This is probably due to your complete lack of knowledge about topics that you feel compelled to comment on. Modern English is closer to ancient french than modern french is..... perhaps that might help....

@farmerman,
What I don't see is if scientists are able to go to such a find, while it is relatively undisturbed, so that they have more pieces of the puzzle to study.

Obviously, you think only good looking women can have an opinion. May we assume you are one very fine looking person ? Should we believe your opinion because you have told us you are so good looking ?

I am not exactly sure what you are meaning but I was not judging their looks but their minds! I thought that they seem to be speaking truth! Not that I think that they are ugly or any thing. When many people get to be my age most all women start seeming more attractive.

Yes I do agree but Spendius talks often about women so I thought that I would be able to get his attention more easily the way that I worded it! except I did leave out a word "you" It should have read Spendius do "you" have women as fine as these two that come to your pub?
