@alex240101,
Certainly not - we were hanging out at the bar, where these priceless comments were overheard:
Quote:

“Vodka willing to compromise and come together in complete unity with the rocks, please.”

“I’ve served with martinis, Sir. I know martinis. Martinis are a friend of mine. This, Mr. Bartender, is no martini.”

“Just for tonight, we’re featuring this vodka with a raspberry inflation.”

“Just give me whatever’s on tap. I don’t want to have to tap into the strategic beer reserves.”

“What brand of Scotch do I prefer? Mmm…let me check the latest Zogby poll and get back to you.”

“You can never go wrong if you just drink your conscience, I always say.”

“What wine should I drink if I’m planning on winning Pennsylvania?”

“What!? There’s no Francis Scott Key on the karaoke machine?”

“Are you better off than you were four beers ago?”

Obama's choice of Joe Biden as his running-mate is excellent. The DNC is exhilarating! The speakers outstanding! For the first time ever, I'm clapping and cheering loudly in the solitude of my own livingroom. I find myself imbued with hope for our country's future.

McCain's negativism isn't reaching my ears. I'm praying that my fellow Americans aren't listening to his rhetoric The hope of Obama and Biden is inspiring people who don't vote to rise from their armchairs and to get registered--many for the first time in their lives. I'll be watching this evening and I'll be cheering for the next president of the United States: Barack Obama.

@Cycloptichorn,
OMG, this thing has just kicked off, MLK III is speaking and already I am reaching for the Kleenex.

"We all have MLK in our hearts today."

Yes, indeed. And I know that MLK would be standing up for marriage equality and other LGBT rights if he were alive today.

Did anybody else get choked up when Hillary suspended the roll call, and declared Obama the winner?

I would guess about 90% of Democrat women and maybe half the Dem men.

@nicole415,
Yeah, Bernice King made me get the Kleenex. "Content of his character" got me.

Soz... did you ever hear Bill C?

@OCCOM BILL,
No.

I've been in multi-task mode, lots of running around and doing things for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, maybe even 15 -- then out the door for an hour or two. Haven't had a good chunk of time to sit down and watch the whole thing yet. Probably don't now either -- maybe tomorrow morning though.

@High Seas,
You are confusing reading the New Yorker with being in a bar.

@Cycloptichorn,
Hi Cycloptichorn: I don't spend as much time here as I used to, but I still visit occasionally! I'm soooo inspired by the speakers at the DNC. I can't remember ever being this hopeful for our future. I've been so bogged down in sadness and disappointment in this country over the last eight years that this "new feeling" is . . . well, new. I'm feeling refreshed!

@sozobe,
When MLK spoke in DC, I had plans to go see him but something happened and I didn't get to go.(I lived in Baltimore) I never thought that "The Dream" might in some way be realized in my lifetime.

Even with Obama in the White House, we will still have a lot of work to do, not only to achieve freedom for all Americans but freedom for everyone in the world.

@H2O MAN,
Except then he said that, whoops, he HASN'T made his VP pick...

I tend to agree with analysis that a) it'd be bad form to announce tonight, and would get some blowback, and b) there isn't really any stepping on this story. If McCain announces his VP tonight, THAT'S the story that'll be buried -- not Barack Obama accepting the nomination on the 45th anniversary of MLK's "I have a dream" speech.

CNN reports that lines to get in are as much as a mile to six miles long, according to police.

Just reminding everyone that C-span offers gavel-to-gavel unfiltered coverage.

I like to switch around to hear "the talking heads" though. Every time I switch to MSNBC, there is someone or a couple people chanting "911 was an inside job" and it has been going on for hours.

They are becoming completely unhinged over at Fox "News"

Chris Wallace, on Sheryl Crow: "What does this have to do with electing a president?"

Shep Smith: Well, let's just let it (Crow) play out since it is just an infomercial.

John McCain even chimed in on a buy. Today is your day, Barack Obama, how perfect that your nomination falls on the anniversary of the MLK speech."

LOL I thought of the SNL church lady! "Aren't you so special?"

@nicole415,
Shep also said something to the effect that ALL Americans should pause and take note of the historic event that is taking place right before our eyes.

FOX is fair, but some are so wrapped up in the hype that they can't see it.

@H2O MAN,
I just switched on the TV in time to watch Megan Kelly on Fox give a glowing and positive assessment of what has been going on at the stadium all day and right now. She sounded like a spin meister direct from the Obama campaign. Not a hint of negativity.

Yes, I would say Fox is doing a very good job of being fair.

That makes as much difference as those 5% of votes where McCain did not vote with the Bush Administration. If you only look at those few votes then yes a Fox News watcher might believe McCain is the liberal maverick wearing a Republican mask his campaign hopes everyone will believe.

Fox News is about as objective as MSNBC is.

Okay, so, sitting her watching the convention: the stage doesn't look one goddamm thing like a 'greek temple.' What a bunch of BS the Republicans have resorted to. Honestly.

When the other side is complaining about the set, you've already won.
