Hey anybody, how'd certain folks keep using their avatars? I know we were told to "save" them, and I have mine all in my pc, but how do I use one in the new site?

@snood,
We are using gravatar, which is a service for avatars anywhere on the net that supports them. So to display it here upload it at: http://en.gravatar.com/

Just use the same email address as you use on able2know. We'll have more instruction on this from the profile page soon.

@Craven de Kere,
Thanks for the information. Gonna take some getting used to, but the site does look nice.

@snood,
Wait. It sometimes takes up to an hour or so to show up.

@snood,
Sooo.....................I uploaded my avatar to gravatar. So far so good. But then it stretched the picture out, so that it was all pixillated. When it showed how to crop the image, it included only a piece of the picture, and it came out like something that you might find in the Museum of Modern Art. Interesting, but I would be "lost" without my original avatar.

OK, just a personal gripe here: the avatars are really tiny. I suppose we'll have to reevaluate our avatar choices in light of this new fact -- find ones that have less detail and so forth -- but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

@Phoenix32890,
Phoenix, I'm having the same problem. Pretty pixels, but no recognizable image.

And I'm about out of time for playing with it - back later.

@Phoenix32890,
You can stretch out the crop box to fit a square portion of your image as large as the smallest dimension (height or width).

@littlek,
Thanks littlek, I just came back to say I figured that out!

I thought I had to take what was in the little box - didn't realize I could stretch it out.

@sozobe,
So, the gravatar site send the image here after you load and crop it there?

@Phoenix32890,
I can see Phoe's avatar on her profile page, but not next to her posts. I can see Nick (developer)'s avatar next to his posts but not on his profile page. I can see Soz's avatar next to her posts and on her profile page.

Seems a bit hit and miss right now.

@littlek,
Yeah -- you do the work there, and then it eventually shows up here.

"Eventually" seems to vary a great deal.

@ehBeth,
Strange- I can't see the avatar on my profile, or next to my posts! Sad
