@ossobuco,
On pumpkin panna cotta, see the Bitten blog.
Easy. Also fatty. It reminds me a bit of (real) gelato - it's so good you don't need a lot, no reason to pile up. I do plan to work my way from cream to skim. Since I've long liked california skim milk (not blue) over whole milk, it might even work.
I'm with osso, jes. I know you can forgive yourself and move on. It's a brand new day, as Sting says.

Snacks: oh, I don't know you-name-it:
a couple three pieces of chocolate while packing a package for my kiddo (I did send him some), a bagel, a big piece of cheese after dinner, the last piece of Christmas fudge which I was supposed to save until I lost the ten vacation pounds... . Pass the Duct Tape.

@Joe Nation,
I think youre getting obsessive Joe, I sorta dont like this side of you. You seem to have put away your joy of living and have taken up a mantle of something more gray and sad, and quantitative.
Can you perhaps start up a "Joe" thread about something irrelevant and entertaining like you do so well. (Im sure that the similarly obsessed will continue to follow this one).
Remember , we dont really know each other except by these offerings. So,my picture of you has always been a really gifted writer with a quirky POV and I imagine you as somebody who is always going around being amazed at many things at once. Id like to see more of that side .
When you start obsessing about the equivalent weight of a quarter pounder, Ive gotta jump in and give you a virtual dope smack.

@jespah,
Quote:Horrible day, almost 200 calories more than I'm allotted and about 55 g of carbs more than I'm supposed to be having. I am not pleased.
Bounce back, Girlie. You're doing great.
Feeling better (and ended up dropping what I gained by this morning anyway. I'll see if it holds by Monday AM), thanks all.
Main thing I'm less than thrilled with is that NYC is just plain difficult for me, and it does not have to be. You can, allegedly, get anything you want. One problem is portion sizes. Another is hidden weirdnesses (usually fat and salt) which I have to watch, watch, watch. A third is being at a home that is not mine, so there is that dynamic. And the final is that it's often a heavy carb time.
The good news is that we exercise like fiends during those times. And, we don't go there too often. This was flukey because of Thanksgiving and then for the holiday RP's sister and family came to the US so we had to go. But it was also a lot of overconcern about how much I was eating, and it seemed like the main topic of convo if I was around. Now, I realize that what I do for a living is boring and arcane, but I like to think that other things can be spoken of around me, instead of being asked if yet again I wanted more pita bread (oh, I'll make you some potatoes. Er, more carbs are the last thing I need. Etc. etc. etc.). I had to, quite literally, say no three times for it to be believed, when it came to offers of food. I don't want to be the engine driving what other people eat. I just want to eat what I'm eating and be left alone, like everyone else. Instead, it's a big production.
I'm rambling, I know, but this is how family situations are for me right now.

WOO-HOO! That's wonderful! (And you'll be passing me up any day now.)
I remember the family (and work-related) food situations all too well. Most of the people in my life have gotten over that now. And I've gotten better at handling it. But there were a couple of years there when I dreaded all such events. And I was continuously evaluating where they were coming from. Were they jealous? Doubting my strength? Just being mean by insisting that a little cake wouldn't kill me? Or even if no one was pushing food or acting weird about what I was eating or not eating, I would sometimes feel out of place. Things are much simpler now that everyone's used to the new me.
Woo-hoo is right.

gnocchi with champignon sauce and a salad

the days before were similar, just replace wine with becher or fernet.... damn slovak friends and their new houses and new babies and all other new acquisition one has to go admire and thusly partake in jubilation via drinking.
@dagmaraka,
Every day is a new day (which is what our friends have been telling me, yanno).
A clean slate, an empty canvas. Time to paint on it, Dag.
@jespah,
Yesterday was a tilapia fish onion cake with mayo/tartar sauce dollop, and a slug of apple cherry juice very diluted
some of the cheese cracker things from a recipe from Penzeys. Gadzooks they're good. But they're so rich, er, like pumpkin panna cotta, and gelato, one is satisfied with a smidge. Over a day, I had 3 crackers. Recipe somewhere on a2k.
Naturally, the next batch will unrich them re fat and salt content (oh, but to what avail? Stay tuned..)
Late at night, one of the adobo burritos from the freezer alla microwava.
Over the day, two wee glasses of red.
@ossobuco,
Aack, I forgot - some stick pretzels and some sliced salami from friends' fridge.
Big "I forgot".
@George,
ham foam. what's not to love?

I'm betting Ham Foam is spreadable as in liverwurst. I'm also betting that it's the last last last last bit of the hog to be used..... 'cept the squeal, of course.

@Joe Nation,
ham foam is indeed spreadable, but light as fluffy clouds. It is made for children mostly, which means it must be incredibly healthy. Only the best parts of ham are used. Shhhh. go away.
