@ehBeth,
I've been trying to loose weight for two years. I've gone from a size 20 to 14 so far. Heading for size 12 by the end of the year. It's been hard because I can't exercise. I tried that and ended up in the hospital for 5 days in December 2009 because I began exercising and caused ubber blood clots in my body. So I've been ordered to not exercise other than walking, which isn't easy for me.

Butrflynet is doing most the cooking now, lots of salads, vegies, fruit and lean meat. With her help I'm still loosing pounds. My doctor said some of that loss is muscle, which is clear to me she's right.

The fun part is that I'm having to buy smaller clothes because I didn't want to embarrass people by my pants falling down to the ground. My doggies Dolly and Madison think I'm beginning to look sexy.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Buying smaller clothes is always a nice reward! Very Happy

Good on you for the re-shaping so far.

I certainly like preparing the bags of too-large clothes to be donated.

@ehBeth,
I've got so many bags of my former office work large size clothing and my closet is still stuffed. I just have to find a way to drive them them to several charities. There is an organization that I've donated to that provides office work style clothing for when the women have job interviews. There is always the Good Will, but I've found another other group that needs clothing for the mentally impaired that I want to donate to.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Big Brothers Big Sisters picks up your donations -- at least they do that here. You just get on their mailing list and then they tell you when they'll next be doing a pickup in your neighborhood. Leave the stuff out in a bag or box, clearly marked BBBS and in a place where you've told them it'll be (e. g. on the porch or whatever). That's all deductible of course.

And yay on you for the loss. Excellent job!

Good on you, BBB.
And Butrflynet too, re the cooking.
I cook virtually every meal for myself, so my problems are 1) all the cooking and kitchen upkeep, 2) making sure I get various nutrients, and 3) exercise, which I am less likely to do here than my old habitats.

I know this constitutes a problem, I know the benefits of exercise from long experience, but I was always an underlying reader in a chair, and have to yell at myself now to get out of that.

So, just now, in the evening, I weigh 148, similar to most of my posts here since the thread started. I started on this thread at 154, in mid 2008. I started to lose slowly though, probably in 2005.

Joe, was this the only thread or did you have one before this one?

My highest weight in life was hovering at 190, though I was, many times, lower. (I was 5' 5 1/2", not sure re my height now) and might have been 180 when I moved here. I lost slowly and I've stayed at this weight, which I think is fine. I don't particularly want to go lower, as in my younger adult weight of 125-130. Stronger, yes, I need to work on that.

Yes, good on BFN! My apologies for not acknowledging her.

osso, I wonder if Books on Tape would work for you, at least a bit. Go walking or hiking with a book going? Could you?

@jespah,
I've not gotten into that. I'm usually happy enough looking at the local scene, having it become more mine, seeing things you never do driving. Well, I'm a very visually interested person even at the worst of times, and at my best my brain is a camera. This is my first housing tract life though, and is quite a drop from the visual interest of, say, old Venice, California. On the other hand, this is a lovable tract as tracts go; it does have some charm.

The bigger problem is a lot of the year is too damned hot. I could surmount this by rising and shining, but.... that is so not my nature. I am still adapting to the fact that it is hotter here in late afternoon than anytime earlier in the day. I think I need to start walking to the library, which is probably two miles away, or maybe 1.5. Stay tuned..

@ossobuco,
We walk to most of our local errands, unless something really hefty needs to be carried. There's even a Home Depot within walking distance, although I would drive there if we needed to carry home something like an air conditioner.

Hang in there -- which is something I am telling myself a lot these days.

Things are not going so well. We think the ice cream is not helping things one iota, so we will finish out what we've got and stop buying it until next Summer. In the meantime, I'm trying to head to the gym twice per week to stop the slide. Sigh. This part sucks.

Starting Weight: 346 lbs.
Current Weight: 207.2 lbs. The last time I weighed this much, it was April. Of '09. Feh!
Difference from last week: up 5.4 lbs.

Overall difference: down 138.8 lbs.

Hey! 211 lb here! We're having a race again---yehawww!

Calories In: 1300

Breakfast (600 calories) : Muesli

Half a pound of plain, nonfat yogurt, half a cup of uncooked oatmeal, half a cup of cranberry nut mix, one peach.

Lunch (400 calories) : BLT sandwich, with the "B" replaced by smoked tempeh.

Dinner (300 calories) : one pound of baby carrots, one raw green pepper, with French oninon dip.

Calories Out:
None (rested after an 18-mile long run in Central Park on Sunday.)

Weight: I don't know which baseline to use for my weight anymore, so I'll use my arrival in America from now on, which was a nice, round 250 lb. With that clarified, my weight is 211 lb: 1 lb down from last week, 39 down since I arrived in the US. Hoping to make 200 before the Marathon on November 7.
