This guy (Murtha) keeps getting himself in deeper and deeper.

Now he threatens anyone who runs against him...

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0509/22449.html

Quote:
The Republican who challenged Rep. John Murtha in 2008 says a top aide to the embattled Pennsylvania Democrat threatened to have him recalled to active duty in the U.S. Army so he could be court-martialed for engaging in politics while serving in the armed forces.

Bill Russell " who challenged Murtha in 2008 and intends to do so again in 2010 " said Murtha chief of staff John Hugya made the threat during a National Rifle Association event in mid-March.

Ret. Col. Gregory Ritch, a former Army Reserve officer who served as Russell’s commanding officer, said he heard Hugya make a similar threat in January.

Now why would a Senator with such a sterling record of supporting the military (insert sarcasm here) threaten someone?
Does Murtha have such low regard for the democratic process, or is he just another mobster in disguise?

Either way, Murtha should face charges for this, even though the "experts" say...
Quote:
Ethics experts said the comments attributed to Hugya " while unseemly " don’t present a clear-cut ethics violation.

Gad, you are one big 'ol bigot.

I want marrige to remain a lawful union between exactly one male and exactly one female.

I would not oppose the legislation of pairage (or whatever you want to call it) to be a lawful union between exactly two males, or between exactly two females. To legislate that marrige include what I called pairage distorts, corrupts, and obscures the meaning of the classical (i.e., 3,000 plus year old lawful union) marriage. I am married to the bride of my youth and will resist any effort to make my marriage no different than what I call pairage. It has been and is different than what I call pairage, and both my bride and I love it that way!

Letter of Amends from a Recovering Liberal in Berkeley

Dear friends, family, loved ones, conservatives, Republicans, libertarians, my brother in law, Sam, and my cousin Joe: I am sorry and you were right.

These are not easy words for anyone to utter, much less a leftist from Berkeley, or a recovering leftist, that is. Even though I've been in recovery for 14 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days, leftists are always right in your face, in an I-hate-you-if-you-disagree sort of way. Hence, this letter of amends to all the people I've lectured, scolded, ranted and raved at, and otherwise annoyed during my 30 plus years of "progressive" politics.

My recovery program urges a fierce moral inventory, a cleansing of heart and mind (kind of like a "forgiveness tour" but without the scary dictators), so here goes:

To my brother in law, Sam, for blasting you in that Chinese restaurant for voting for Reagan, mea culpa.

To my cousin Joe for calling you a traitor when you became an MBA, started holding a real job (as opposed to most of us Berkeley types who are psychotherapists, massage therapists and aromatherapists), and became a conservative, my bad.

To my goddaughter whom I told when she was l0 years old that Republicans were bad, Democrats were good (yes I really did say this), and who got confused and tearful because she lives in a suburb where most people are Republicans, kid, what in the world was I thinking?

To my leftist friends, with whom I agreed that 9/ll was the US's fault, you and I were all such jerks.

To those potential friends whom I dumped when I found out you were conservative, your gain is my loss.

To all those columnists and editors whom I harangued with angry letters and e mails, sorry, sorry, sorry.

And finally to me, Robin, for installing you for the last 27 years in the far left cult of the People's Republic of Berkeley, where Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the SLA, where the Black Panthers had their violent beginnings and the heads of the Black Muslims are jailed for murder and rape, my apologies, girl.

I didn't know any better. I thought the whole world lived in areas where the streets are filthy, aggressive street behavior is allowed because the perps are victims of capitalism, and where you can easily get mugged walking down a street or eating in a restaurant at noon. (By the way, with the Left in charge, expect gangs, crime, indoctrination of 5 year olds and general anarchy to be coming soon to a neighborhood near you.)

Given that the media is pretty much censored (good luck finding a conservative book in your local "independent" book store or hearing a Republican speak anywhere), you didn't know that a party of grown ups even existed that didn't advocate screaming at others as the preferred mode of communication. So to my dear Robin, apologies for what I put you through, what I deprived you of, and my pledge to do better.

Cousin Joe, Sam, et al, you may be wondering how I did a l80 in 1 1/2 years. How did I go from a rabid, sanctimonious liberal whom you steadfastly avoided at family gatherings to a fan of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Savage? Recovery encourages us to share our story, so here's mine:

In February of 2008, I saw a new client, a bright and sensitive young woman who came in looking like she just escaped a war zone. In some ways she had; she had innocently shared with others at her job that she voted for Hillary rather than Obama. Immediately she was being targeted for abuse that put her in fear for not only her job, but her life.

We both suddenly became aware that something had grown really dark in the Democratic Party. I started hearing about many other incidents where loyal Democrats were being physically and emotionally threatened for supporting Hillary. A woman in Berkeley had her front window broken because it displayed a poster of Hillary. Randi Rhodes, an Air America talk show leftist, called Hillary a f______ witch. (Rhodes was recently promoted to a national talk radio show, illustrating another disturbing trend: the deafening silence about what Rush Limbaugh has dubbed the new "thug-ocracy.)

An acquaintance had her car broken into, and the only item stolen was a NoObama bumper sticker. A South Park episode featured an episode where a nuclear weapon was being aimed at Hillary's genitals. My local greeting card store sold very flattering cards about Obama, insulting ones about Hillary, and a Hillary "nutcracker." When I complained, the young male manager literally laughed in my face.

Things went from bad to worse when Sarah Palin entered the scene. When Geraldine Ferraro ran for Vice President, there was no debasement of her character, no sexual threats. But with Palin, a full scale "wilding" ensued that chillingly reminded me of the random sexual attacks on women by gangs of men in New York. She was called every vile name in the book by both male and female liberals.

Actress Sarah Bernhardt hoped a gang of black males would rape her. When Palin's church was torched with children inside, the press was missing in action (somehow I imagine the press would have been all over this if Obama's church were torched). Not only was the misogyny disgusting, but the classism was abhorrent. The Democrats, by ridiculing Palin's voice and her education, were acting like arrogant snobs. The party had changed, I had changed, and the differences looked irreconcilable.

The final straw for me was when a close friend flew into a rage at me when she learned I wasn't supporting Obama. The political became personal when she began impugning my character. Worse yet, she tried to intimidate me into changing my mind by threatening to dump me.

Suddenly a light went on. The peace and love and flower power of the old left was dead and gone (if it even existed to begin with except in my imagination). The Democrats had morphed into a power hungry Thought Police, and I was done with them. My new motto in life: don't PC on me.

So this is my letter of amends, and I hope that I can be forgiven by all whom I've offended. I knew not what the heck I was doing. But now the problem is: how in the world does one be a conservative these days? How to stay brave and committed when conservatives are being targeted, punished, and shunned on a daily basis? How to sleep at night knowing that the country I have finally come to love may be destroyed from within by a massive Big Brother government?

I guess I'll just have to do a step one, as we 12 stepper's call it, and turn it all over to my Higher Power.

Love,

Robin

It will be interesting to watch the libbies trip over themselves insulting Robin. Just goes to prove her point.

@McGentrix,
What point is Robin trying to prove?

I always question how there can be a deafening silence if someone is talking about it.

What that means is either Robin, as a professed liberal, has been listening to Rush or she managed to hear about what Rush said in spite of this "deafening silence."

Tell me one lie and I question what else isn't true in the piece. How sure can we be that Robin even lives in Berkeley? Let alone if she even exists.

I'm glad to see that Sarah Bernhardt was able to express her opinions about the 2008 presidential election despite the rather formidable handicap of having died in 1923. It gives hope to those outside of Chicago that death is no obstacle to their continuing participation in the political process.

After reading the link, I am forced to wonder if any of the left leaning people on here find those comments acceptable.

Or, would they be screaming bloody murder if a conservative had made those same comments about a liberal?

No doubt a genuine liberal would be more familiar with Sandra Bernhard and spell her name correctly. "Poor Robin" is no doubt a fictional name for a conservative pushing a piece of propaganda on the internet. The letter has "urban legend" written all over it.

like free speech, american equality requires that we extend the same rights to all american citizens, not just the ones we approve of.

do you agree with that statement?

Absolutely I agree with it and quote it or parts of it often. I believe that nobody should be able to infringe on my unalienable, legal, civil, or Constitutional rights so long as I am not infringing on anybody else's. And I believe one of those rights is the right to not have somebody materially attack with the intent to punish me for exercising my right of free speech.

So where are you going with this?

Okie, I see you don't have the guts to respond to my last post to you. Lame.

Fox, I believe that all who would deny gays and lesbians equal rights are bigots. I have no problem with referring to Obama this way if that's the belief that he holds. Your protestations of hypocrisy are idiotic and ridiculous as I have made it quite clear that I would do this, over several posts now.

The truth is that we do not, contrary to Miss Prejan's stupid answer, live in a country where you can have either gay or straight marriage. We live in a country which allows one but does not allow the other. She didn't answer the question that was asked at all, but instead took the opportunity to remind everyone that heck, she was raised to believe that gays and lesbians are inferior to everyone else, that's just her opinion, what is everyone so upset about?

At the end of the day, more and more states will pass gay marriage laws and those politicians who oppose them - and those people, such as you bigots - will be more and more marginalized. It's no surprise that opposition to gay marriage is by far the strongest amongst oldsters such as yourselves. Luckily for all those who support equality for ALL, we are clearly winning the fight and your side is clearly losing. Soon it won't even be an issue any more, because you will have flat-out lost.

Then, when society doesn't disintegrate; when things go on just like they were before; will any of you have the guts to admit you were wrong? No, you will not. Instead you will carry this shameful attitude all the way to your graves, and good riddance, for that is where beliefs that some are inherently inferior based on their sexuality belong.

I'm done discussing this, because I know the two of you will never admit your inherent bigotry. You won't come right out and say exactly what it is you believe, because you know in your hearts that you are incorrect. I will, instead of pursuing this issue further, comfortably relax in the knowledge that your star is waning while mine is waxing. But I think you both should know that your bigotry makes you look like real assholes.

Cycloptichorn

Let it be known that Cyclop will not admit that Obama shares the same views as Miss Prejan and after given the opportunity to see President Obama say the exact words by which Cyclop condemns Miss Prejan as a bigot--not to mention the fact that he says any who would defend her on those grounds is an asshole. He is still unwilling to admit that President Obama said it and it is still unwilling to pronounce President Obama a bigot as he said he would--the closest he has come is to say that IF President Obama said it he is a bigot He can't bring himself to type out the words. He is still putting words into Miss Prejan's mouth that she did not say, and he refuses to knowledge what President Obama did say.

Personally I don't think either Miss Prejan or President Obama is a bigot or were any way out of line in their remarks on this issue on any occasion. But Cyclop dug himself a huge hole on this one. I don't particularly want to rag on him, and he certainly isn't the only guilty one here, but sooner or later if the conservatives don't start speaking up and defending this kind of pure bigotry--the kind that Cyclop et al are spouting--we will effectively lose all our rights to free speech in this country.

I agree, but "urban legend" is a misnomer here. City dwellers tend to be Democrats, so it isn't "urban," and it hardly qualifies as legendary. It's more like a "suburban fabrication."

simply pointing out that if we are really adhering to the rights granted by the constitution, we don't get to pick and choose which citizens have those rights. either we all have them, or none of us do.

now, before you start beating me up about miss california's plight, please remember what i have said about it;

1) that i find perez hilton to be an opportunist, just like most of these papanazis.

2) that i also thought that considering her situation, the girl really was kind of hypocritical to make a moral pronouncement on someone else's sexuality. that's different from saying that she can't say it.

3) that if the statement " xyz has the right to say this or that. and zyx has the right to respond. " is a fitting comment to make when natalie maines says something, then if we are practicing the true intent of the first amendment, it should also hold true in the case of miss california.

4) if miss california had wanted to avoid falling into such an obvious trap, she could have said that she didn't believe in discussing personal beliefs at work.

5) instead, she chose to make use of the first amendment. refer to #3

that's where i was going, and we're there now. Wink

@DontTreadOnMe,
But she didn't make a moral pronouncement on anybody's sexuality. She answered a question in a most non judgmental way and then went on to say that for her marriage was between a man and a woman. The same thing that President Obama said. The same thing that Hillary Clinton said. The same thing that Joe Biden said.

So why is her saying it a 'moral pronouncement' if them saying it is not?

But yes, everybody is entitle to speak their opinion whatever that opinion is UNLESS that expressed opinion endangers others--shouting FIRE in a crowded theater for instance or joking about hijacking a plane at the airport--and UNLESS that expressed opinion is intended to infringe on somebody else's right to their legal and ethical pursuit of happiness, whatever that might be. That's why we have slander and libel laws and why it is illegal to make certain misleading claims or accusations that could be harmful to people.

If her answer to that question cost her the Miss USA crown, it cost her materially in a painfully significant way. If she had said something inflammatory or insensitive or misleading or crude or hateful, that would have been different. She didn't. She was gentle and unjudgmental and gracious and expressed her opinion--the same opinion that the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State have also expressed without any condemnation from anybody. The attacks on her since then, in an attempt to justify the improper behavior of that judge and harm her as much as possible, have been over the top and should not be acceptable or condoned by you or anybody else.

now, read those two lines;

replace "her" (meaning "miss california") with the name "natalie maines".

change "the miss usa crown" with " record sales".

have the two people been treated in the same way?
