The Southpaws have had ice cold bats for most of the week, except towards the beginning when the guys on the bench were doing ok. Pitching has been unusually mediocre. Gnash. Something of a group slump.

I'm pitching Harden today after being on the DL forever. I need the innings pitched to catch you. Don't think he can lose me anything other than where I'm already behind. Remind me later that this is a good idea...
I almost picked up Ponsen to pitch against Harden today ... but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Not so much fear of Harden, but fear of Ponsen.
Interesting to look at what the standings might look like after today.
Turf Toe (#2) and the raging Absolute Zeroes (#3) will likely swap places. I have George (#4) and Tico (#5), Osso (#6) and RJB (#7) and Cosmik (#8) and Jespah (#9) all moving up or down one slot.
I'd be surprised if I don't move down more than one place with this week's paw crash. But I haven't done the math.
Beltre got a couple of hits yesterday, so that may be the start of a turnaround. We'll see.
Doin' well this week, for once.
PS Happy Mothers' Day. It's pink bat day!

Should've picked up Ponsen, it appears. Cleveland v. Toronto (Carmona and Burnett) rained out ... dashing my pitching plans for today ... dammit.
Happy Mother's Day, all you mothers out there.
Paraphrasing Tico's sig line:
Somedays you win. Somedays you lose. And somedays you get rained out.
It appears my Mother's Day pitching experiment has gone all pear shaped on me.
After a full week off, my team is getting an act together, at least for one day. Welcome back, guys...
Not that that will be reflected in stats, as the dogeared ones have been well buried. But it's still good news.
But too little, too late, I fear. You did win the "Caught Stealing" category.
Johnboy - Snort! That's one more than I thought.
Still, consider the alternative, yet another day of a zillion zeroes. Bengie Molina is back too after a batting hiatus, while struggling with quadriceps, I think. Which is good. Sort of like having a pot of beans soaking in the kitchen, makes things ok, I like him at the top of my list.. And Holm, his replacement catcher, isn't bad, well, at least from some stats.
Bannister the Pitcher was one of the people Yahoo kept sending me screaming notices about dropping, and he had a very nice day today with his control back. Weaver I let go, not sure how smart that was. He may recover, I might recommend someone else pick him up at least on a watch list, or at least look at him. It was the 22 ERA that did me in plus the yahoo struggle warning. But he may regain his poise.
I see Tico picked up Smoltz, major pitcher of course, said to be due to go to RP. So far my RPs have been sterling, so I didn't do that myself, perhaps dumb. I wish Smoltz well.

Well, if the Toronto v. Cleveland game
didn't rain out,
surely I get more than 10 innings between my two SPs in that game, and
surely one of them picks up the Win ... in which case I beat George 8-7, instead of losing 7-9.
But I'm not bitter ...
Dammit.
I'd just like to thank you Tico, for saying in advance that you were sorry to beat me.
That was nice of you but it really wasn't necessary.
I mean it REALLY wasn't necessary.

What I wanna know is, whom do you know in Cleveland who can make it pour from the heavens at your beckoning? (And is this some remnant of some prior vocation?)
And you're welcome.

Cliff Lee is pitching the second game of a double header today. This could be good....
