Travis is turning 20 tomorrow so we're going to have a party. I'm baking a chocolate layer cake, we have 20 candles, birthday plates, balloons and streamers (ha ha). We have a card but no gift - can't think what to get this young fella. We're having his fave - steak and baked potatoes. I think it's nice just to be remembered. His boss, the foreman, is going to let him operate the cat as a b'day present Smile

You can't think what to get him? Didn't you say you were making steak and baked potatoes and baking a chocolate layer cake? What more could he want?

I just love people being called things like Travis.

There are no Travises in my street, but we've got a Jordan, a Cody and a Ruaridh.

Used to be, boys were called Wull and Tam and Eck and suchlike.

Travis will be such a happy camper with his birthday cake.

Yeah, you can't fool me with your crocodile tears! I know you're not regretting anything, georgeob1kanobe - and CJ, you are right to be grateful. I was the sacrificial lamb and I never really knew what he was talking aboot regarding the accent and all. I was thinking HE was talking funny, eh? I was just way too polite to point it out to him, even after being teased so mercilessly.

Well. Mame, I do enjoy teasing people I like (nobody teases jerks). I went easy on Calamity only because of the apparently united Franco German alliance & my need to scout out the ground a bit before firing. Had the lunch lasted longer, I would have evened the score -- so would you I'll bet.

I believe you are presuming of your abilities, my friend, especially when facing fierce opposition.. Twisted Evil

Ha !! Arrogant Frenchmen ! Mame is such a sweetheart that I used only a tiny portion of my powers on her - and she thought it "merciless". I'll concede that you and Calamity appeared formidable enough for me to be circumspect, and in the Sun Tsu tradition, examine the battlefield well. However... next time you are toast !

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, Intrepid, but apparently the new guy is a mysoginist... he won't deign to speak to me except to ask if there's coffee and to say "Thanks for the meal". He also doesn't like my buddy, the camp manager - he just grunts at him or ignores him altogether. So maybe he just doesn't like the camp help.

The new guy notwithstanding, I meant the thread and the posters within. Laughing

Give the mysoginist a can of Campbell's. Laughing

I'm afraid that even your mighty powers will not be sufficient..

So Mame, Remind me of your job responsibilities. Are you both the cook and the camp medic?

Mame, I made your sour cream biscuits last night (along with some lentil soup) and they were a big hit. I did add some chopped chives for color and extra kick. My husband liked them better than the cheddar cheese biscuits I usually make. Thanks.

I'm glad they went over well, GW, and the addition of chives sounds good. I made some bacon and swiss cheese muffins today - very good, like a Quiche Lorraine. Also made a yeastless bread (no yeast here) - easy peasy.

marty - yes, I just cook two breakfasts and two dinners, plus make cookies, muffins, desserts, etc. And yes, first call First Aider.
