My trip to the Côte d'Azur (French Riviera)

Reply Fri 15 Feb, 2008 03:20 pm
I'd been for a couple of days to the Côte d'Azur, staying at the Baie des Anges, in Nice, and visiting by bus, tram, and train some other places in that region.

When I started in the early morning, there were some strong winds ar Francfort airport - so my commuter plane had to wait for an hour (instead of flying holding patterns in Francfort.

We have a very comfortable smoking lounge (still!) at our local airport ...

... especially compared to the class cage (there are actually two) at Francfort

The architecture in Nice is often dominated by the "Belle Époque style" - something I noticed the afternoon I'd arrived when just having left my accomodation

Next to the sea, there's a nice park, with a carroussel, big wheel etc as well as some nice plastics

The main place between the old town and the new city is the Place Masséna

When you look at the street signs, you'll notice that they are in two different languages: French and the local Italian dialect, the Nissart

Nice has a couple of really interesting museums - I visited none, besides the Palais Lascaris in Vieux Nice

They use a light inside which is kind of red - and since no flash is allowed that really doesn't due any harm to the artifacts but results in not so nice photos

It really does look very Italian in some of these photos. Maybe it's just old Mediterranean architecture.

An interesting view across the street ...

... notifying that the Palais isn't so easily to photograph in total from outside

Nice has been Italian (Savoy) from 1388 to 1860

We are going further up the hill, to the castle mountain, looking down now to the harbour (with the seafarer's church) ....
