Loved the pics of Asgard, Izzie.

I sailed on her for a short trip during the Bi-Centennial celebrations.

My biggest adventure, though, was on one of the other Re-enactment ships, Amorina, a Swedish barquentine, but I don't have any digital photos, unless you count me pointing to a very large photo of a sailing ship on the wall!

I went on a cruise through the Whitsundays for a week, which was fantastic fun. I then sailed from Darwin to Singapore, catching the edge of a cyclone. I was desperately sea-sick for three days, unable to stand up even - all a bit unattractive. Fortunately came good after that.

I had to fly home from Singapore Crying or Very sad but immediately home, I booked a flight to the Maldives to join her again, sail around the Maldives for a week, and then across the Indian Ocean and disembark at Aden, in Yemen. (my contender for arsehole of the universe!)

When we got to Aden, the Yemeni immigration people saw me as some sort of undesirable (I mean, me!!! Shocked ) and I was deported (or they were going to impound the boat!). I had to go back on board, and arrived in Egypt 2 weeks later! (latest I've ever been for work!)

An unbelievable trip; great fun; and I still have as friends a number of those I met on that boat almost 20 years ago.

I've done some tall ship sailing since then - but nothing to match that in fun and experience!

So smiling here - I have the photos all over my walls - had to take them down - some were even stuck onto the glass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and went on the scanner glass and all!

Your trip sounds fantastic. Fortunate people to have had the opportunity.

I must admit - that was one of the best experiences of my life - the Irish were MAD and it was a "great crack", as they would say. One of those "once in a lifetime" things. Spent a year backpacking - such good times. Smile

I got to see the Hawaiian Cheiftain and the Lady Washington last year when they stopped by Eureka, CA. It was so neat, they were just gorgeous... I hope next time they're here we'll get a chance to sail around the bay on one of them; we didn't have the money to do that last time...

The most amazing thing to me was seeing the size of them and imagining sharing such a small amount of space with a bunch of other people, especially when you go below decks--major claustrophobia!

Know that feeling - what a storm and a half this was. VERY SCARY. Very tiring - went on for many hours - soon had to find our sea-legs then. Surprised

ABSOLUTELY EXHILARATING.

I've been aboard Asgard II, off the Isle of Wight.
We were rafted together with Eendracht, having a party. A hooley, you might say.
Then the anchors dragged, but luckily I was off watch.

USS Constitution in Boston Harbour- as the oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy, I believe it is necessary for the ship to put to sea at least once a year, to maintain its commissioned status. So, once a year they tow it out into the bay, throw some tea into the ocean or whatever they do, and tow it back in.

Hey U-boats

Not tall ships, but may be of interest to some.

Wanted to update the Tall Ships Event. I went in and started my shift at 10:00 am and just got home.

One ship is not able to sail due to denial of insurance to have passengers on board. Another ship was under sail attempting to turn and have the tug catch her on the stern. The tug wasn't fast enough and the vessel hit a power box and pier. The ship then pushed another vessel against the dock and the person on board immediately got out of his vessel in order not to be crushed. No one was hurt and all ships are now docked until morning.

The air show was great and the firework show was spectacular. I will post pictures of the ships and aircrafts soon.

Now I am heading to bed because I have another shift to start in the am.

Happy 4th to all!!!
Very Happy

You are very welcome and yes they are gorgeous huh?

Those vessels you see by them are volunteers providing water security. Due to Homeland Security, all vessels must stay at least 50 yards away from the tall ships when they are under sail. These volunteers are doing an awesome job out there and the captains of the ships sure have a great sense of humor.

A side joke we were having up on the bridge is when another volunteer radioed us asking for instructions regarding staying with the vessels. They were told something like- You take the lady out, stay with her and bring her back safely to the front door. That made me smile Very Happy

I will post a few more sunset pictures and one I have never seen before where a fighter jet is flying in formation with a prop. plane.

Hoping everyone is enjoying seeing these vessels Very Happy

If I'm not mistaken there was a sister ship (or two) that were also taken as spoils of war, but I no longer recall who got them.
