You are very lucky.

Go watch them. I was fortunate to sail on a Tall Ship in Oz 88 ( for the BiCentennial Tall Ships Race. Fandabedozee. They are absolutely spectacular. GO SEE THEM Smile

(Asgard II - Irish Tall Ship - not good for the liver - but OMG - so much fun) Cool

Oh go4it girlie. Do you think you will get a chance to sail? It really is the most amazing experience you can imagine. There were 30 of us on board. The Asgard II is tiny compared to the Eagle - but..... what a journey that was. Very Happy

Live, Laugh, Love - be one of the crew! Smile

I don't know. I have been on sail boats before and sailed, but not big ones like these.

Oh man......I'd love to see those... have any links with dates and places?

When we were kids and my family took a trip to Sweden we toured through some of the old Viking sailing ships. They were amazing and I've always dreamed of riding the waves on one.

I've been sailing in small sail boats on Tomales Bay but that's just not the same...

The Bigger The Better (know someone will have something to say about that)!

Really though! Once you get over the UGH bit and get your sea-legs...it's all plain sailing. We were in a Force 9 - will try and paste a photo tomorrow - but as everyone knows - it takes me a while!!!!!!!!!!!) You can get patches these days to stop the UGH bit.

I've sailed a bit - and found that the smaller yachts made me far more "dizzyUGH". That's how it was for me anyways.

TTHun - if you get the chance - so go for it. I'm sure you would never regret it. There is nothing more beautiful than the wind in the sails and dolphins swimming alongside the bow riding the waves. Smile

Will really try and post some photos (can do that yeah?)

I won't say what organization I belong to, but we escort them in. I can be on one of those boats, but I think I will be a land volunteer instead. Hard decision since both sound fun.

Both are gorgeous and I wouldn't have guessed by that picture CalamityJane that that sail boat is 145 ft.

Once a long time ago I had an interesting encounter with the then FRG training vessel - an elegant four masted square rigger. I still have some photos - it happened on a georgeous clear day off the Coronados Islands (off the coast of Mexico). The German ship was headed north to San Francisco for a port visit, and I, in my ship, was on an opposite course, racing another carrier, USS Enterprise (in what the Enterprise captain and I thought was a very empty stretch of ocean where no one would observe us. ) The two carriers were neck and neck about 1,500 yds apart at maximum speed and the German vessel was on an opposite, collision course with me. If I turned I would lose the race, so I signalled the German by flashing light (captain to captain) asking him to stay clear. He responded saying he would and that he understood the situation perfectly. He then asked if he could pass between us; I responded saying OK but be careful of the wakes and "no photos, please" (not wanting to see any photos of the race in the San Francisco papers.) He replied again assuring me that he "understood perfectly". I wonder what the scene looked like to him. He kept his word - (and manned his yards as he passed by (at a relative speed of about 50 knots). Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to thank him.
