He moved to New York for a job and has been living with his childhood friend while he hunts for a home for his family to live in. He announces that he will have to quit his job because he cannot find a place for his family to live. His childhood friend's girlfriend owns a vacant cottage, but she's reluctant to rent it to this man because she fears his ethnic background will offend the neighbors in the area. Her attitude causes the break-up of her engagement to the man's friend.

He becomes very agitated when she enters the room in her robe. The pattern of her robe disturbs him - so does the pattern on the bedspread. He becomes very stressed.
