A man is at a fruit stand. A woman comes up and tries to steal a piece of fruit. The owner of the fruit stand catches her and threatens to call the police, but the man pays for the fruit and takes the woman to a diner to eat.
She's been waiting for him in the rain. As he comes out of the building, he removes his hat (he likes the rain). She falls down on the wet pavement in front of him. When she recovers, he hails a taxi and takes her to dinner . He even has a violinist play for her.
After his mistress threatens to ruin his life by exposing their affair, and some possible financial improprities on his part, he meets with his brother to get advice on how to deal with his dilemma.
