Yep, looking forward to the Oscars.
I watched the Independent Spirit awards this afternoon. They're sort of the anti-Oscars. Little Miss Sunshine won best picture there.
I forgot about the Independent Spirit Awards. They were on AMC this evening. I hope they repeat them.

I am not sure if the incarcerated murderess is a "leading" character. Lindsay Crouse has two scenes of dialogue with her. However, Lindsay Crouse's actions in the film's climax was influenced by what the murderess talks about.
OK. I'm going to include House of Games because even if she wasn't a leading lady, Karen Kohlhaas

did get billing as "prison ward patient". Don't you agree that after all the effort Wandeljw put into that one, House of Games deserves a spot on the list?

(I loved that movie.)
38. Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), a black woman prisoner (Aisha Hinds) is held in the precinct.
Is she the star of the movie?

The stars of the movie are men. There are three important female characters and she is one of them. She gets killed like almost everybody else.
Sounds important enough to me, Paaskeynen.

I'm adding it to the list.
39. Madame X - Lana Turner in jail cell
One more and we'll move on. I think Valli in The Paradine Case is in jail, but I'm not positive.

I can't remember either (strangely enough my only images remaining from that film concern Charles Laughton, who always had a quite strong screen presence), but the pictures from the film on IMDB show Valli being registered at a police station in preparation for being locked up and a scene of Peck talking to Valli in what looks like a visitor's area in prison, so that would support your surmise...
Already looking forward to K (k-9, karaoke, kindergarten, kingpin (i.e. mafia boss, etc), kitchenware (used as plot device), knitting?)
Yes, Paaskeynen, it was the visitor's area of the prison I recall, too, but it's time to move on. All good suggestions for "k", but I can't get "kilt" out of my mind.
K = Kilt - an item of Scottish national dress, a pleated tartan skirt reaching to the knees and traditionally worn by men (a movie scene where a character/s wore a kilt)
1. Random Harvest - (Greer Garson performs a dance routine wearing a kilt)
Thanks, Raggedy. Kilt made my day! (You knew it would.)
2. Brigadoon
3. Highlander
5. I Know Where I'm Going
(I love that movie)
6. Bonnie Scotland (1935)
Wow, kilt

hadn't thought of that one...
8. Braveheart (1995), of course
9. Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), Andie MacDowell's husband wears a kilt at their wedding.
10. Casino Royale (1967), David Niven wears one
Trying hard to remember more.
11. Wee Willie Winkie - Shirley Temple
