Oh, I never saw At Play in the Fields of the Lord. I'll make a point of renting it.

I haven't been here in so long; I feel like I'm crashing a party.

Oooh. Did I hear party? I haven't been to a party in - let me think:
10 years, at least.

So start the party rolling, Max. It's your turn to ask a question. Laughing

Very Happy

This actress was wonderful in everything she did. Two true stories:

One based on the sad life of Chester Gillette.

Another one she won the Oscar. Think the attitude of Marlene Dietrick. (hope I spelled that last name right)

I think an American Tragedy was based on the life of Chester Gillette, and A Place in the Sun was based on American Tragedy.

Are we looking for a character actress?

I thought of Shelley Winters, but I'm lost on the clue "think the attitude of Marlene Dietrich".

I enjoyed that Marlene Dietrich bio.

Question:

He's got four red-headed sons and he does not want to get baptized.

He's a millionaire, but his bride-to-be turns him down.

He's a detective with a mischievous dog.

William Powell. The first is "Cheaper By the Dozen" (or is that the one with Clifton Webb?) the second is "How to Marry a Millionaire" with Lauren Bacall and the third is, of course, The Thin Man series.

Hi eoe.

William Powell is correct. The first is "Life With Father".

REMINDER: Tonight is the AFI Life Achievement Award to Sean Connery. It's on from 9 to 11 in Pennsylvania.

Your turn, eoe. Very Happy

I am absolutely clueless, but pondering and trying to come up with an educated guess so that I may get another clue, or two.

I don't want anyone to hurt herself, racking her brain, so here are some clues.

All the movies I'm thinking of are newbies (made after 1980).

The actor was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for his performance in the first movie (the grieving father).

The third movie (in which the actor had a small part as a financial backer of theatrical productions) won the Academy Award for best picture.

Sean certainly did look great, eoe. Very Happy I loved the tribute.

I think the answer to bree's question is Tom Wilkinson. Without the second set of clues, I'd never have guessed. Thank you bree.

a father grieving for his murdered son- In the Bedroom

an unemployed man about to embark on a challenging new career - The Full Monty?

a financial backer of theatrical productions - Shakespeare in Love

Yes to Tom Wilkinson and all the movies.

I thought Pierce Brosnan's tribute to Sean Connery was very moving, but Andy Garcia was not nearly as funny as he seemed to think he was.

Was Andy Garcia a nervous-nellie or what?
Both Pierce Brosnan and Michael Murphy gave wonderful tributes.

And we could have done without that lady and her video game skit.

But, all in all, just to see Sean looking so good was worth it to me.

Oh, and a Happy 57th Birthday to:

Ok. I've got a question.

He was a character actor in these roles:

1. A nurse for a terminally ill producer

2. The murder victim of a man assuming another identity

3. A philandering preacher with an eye for women during the war

Too easy?

Nope, not too easy. I'll have to think about this one.
