I think you've given away the answer to your question, but it was nice to see those pictures anyway!

I know this is unrelated to the thread but I was watching a film at the weekend, it was made in 1963.I couldnt belive it when I saw an actress on it that I just about recognised.
It turned out to be the dippy lady from The Golden Girls/, Rose i think her name was.She was also the older lady in Lake Placid
She was fabulous to watch, a great actress.Fabulous to see her in her younger years.

Material Girl: Was "Advise and Consent" (1962) the movie you watched? Betty White played a Senator in it? That was one of the few, if not the only, movies she appeared in before moving to TV.

Loretta Young, Margaret Sullavan, Anne Baxter and Vivien Leigh (her role in Gone With the Wind (1939) made her participation impossible), all tested for this role. Ronald Colman was considered for the male lead.

And the movie opens with: "Last night I dreamt I went to _________..........

I saw the screen tests that Vivien Leigh and Anne Baxter did for "Rebecca".

Hi Wandeljw.
I saw the screen tests on a TV special. I wonder what Vivien Leigh would have been like in that role. (I so wanted her to get "Wuthering Heights". )

and the last line: We can never go back to Manderley again. That much is certain. But sometimes, in my dreams, I do go back to the strange days of my life which began for me in the south of France...

I think I saw the same TV special, Raggedy.

In my memory, Vivien Leigh did her screen test with Laurence Olivier. They were married at the time, as everyone knows. She was less effective in the screen test than Anne Baxter (for example). Because of the ambiguity in the Rebecca story, it was probably better that the roles were not played by a real-life married couple.

I don't remember Olivier being in the screen test. I've recorded that show on DVD (I think it's the one with Vivien Leigh) and I'll check it out. I agree with your feelings about Leigh playing that part, and as much as I love Olivier, I really didn't care for him (his character) in Rebecca.

Hello Yellowlab. Very Happy
Yes Olivier was great in Rebecca, Olivier's great in any movie (good or bad) he's in, but I just wasn't too crazy about Maxim deWinter.

Sorry Max. No question, no recap.

If you've looked at the earlier posts, you'll see we've covered quite a wide territory. Musicals, books to movies, etc.

I've had several ideas, but haven't had the time. One idea was to pick a subject and see how many movies we can name that fit that subject. Maybe start with A and run through Z.

Example:

A - Let's see if we can name 20 movies that have a connection with "Air" (aviation, space, etc.) - The Spirit of St. Louis

and then, after we name 20 "Air"

B. Baby

C. Color

D. Disasters , and so on and so forth.

Just an idea.

Any suggestions?

Ok. (she rolls up her sleeves)...

Wonderful character actress buried in Maryland. In one film she comforts her daughter on marriage problems, and in another film we (the audience) hopes she will marry that arrogant Irish man.

Who is she?

Very Happy

I don't know where she's buried, but I do know she was born in Maryland. Would it be:

I'm not sure about the marriage problem one, but I'll guess "Barefoot in the Park".

"The Quiet Man" for the arrogant Irishman, Victor McLaghlin?

I just saw her in "The Enchanted Cottage" with Dorothy McGuire, Herbert Marshall and Robert Young on TCM the other day.

I think Mildred Natwick must be the correct answer. According to www.findagrave.com, she's buried in Lorraine Park Cemetery in Baltimore County, Maryland.
