New question, with a couple of wrinkles:

James Mason (2) + in James Mason (2)

The wrinkles are:

(1) As you already figured out, I'm looking for parts of the titles of two different movies that James Mason was in, and

(2) The movie I'm thinking of was based on a book, but the book and the movie have different titles.

If you're not looking for the name of a book, I'm thinking of "A Place in the Sun" and "An American Tragedy". Because "A Place in the Sun" is one of my all-time favorites and I had considered asking "An American Tragedy" as it, too, was a movie in 1931.

A Place of One's Own in Evil Under the Sun; Island in the Sun

You're absolutely right - I was looking for the name of the movie (should have made that clearer), and it's A Place in the Sun. I forgot about the 1931 movie of "An American Tragedy" -- and I missed Island in the Sun on the list of James Mason's movies (I was thinking of Evil under the Sun, as you correctly supposed).

That was a good question, Bree.

I just watched "A Place in the Sun" the other day, for the umpteenth time. Now that I've matured (lol) I'm not as keen on sad movies as I used to be, however, I still love to watch Clift and Taylor together.

(A) Gary Cooper (1) + Irene Dunne (1) + Frank Sinatra (2)

I'm drawing a blank. I think it's too late for my brain to work tonight -- I'll look at this with a (hopefully) fresh eye tomorrow.

I need a hint: I've been staring at the lists of all three actors' movies, and nothing in them triggers any ideas in my mind. Usually I can find something for at least one of the actors, and then I can work my way into the question from there, but this is like trying to climb a sheer cliff face, and not finding any place where I can get purchase.

Good Morning. Is it cool enough for you today? I have a sweater on.

Oh, and

Will you look who's dancin'
Look who's on air
Young as a chick
With a kick like a mule
Will you look who's floating like a feather ...

Duh!

A The Hanging Tree (Cooper)+ It Grows on Trees (Dunne) + It Happened in Brooklyn (Sinatra)

It's delightfully cool here this morning -- I'll have to take a long walk at lunch. Back in a bit with a new question.

Yes, we had our Place in the Sun On the Beach where we met the Prince of Tides and now you're going to a meeting? Sad

There's nothing worse than a Friday afternoon meeting (unless it's a Monday morning meeting).

Anyway -- I liked your one-word title a few rounds back, so I'll try another one.

New question:

Dorothy McGuire (1)

Sorry for delay, just returned from an errand.

Would it be Summer Magic - author William Goldman?

No problem, I just checked back for the first time!

Not Magic -- try a different century (for the book, not the movie).

I'm leaving the office now -- will check in this evening.

Friendly Persuasion - Jane Austen

I haven't seen "Persuasion", but I love "Friendly Persuasion".

"Persuasion" was good -- it's a little darker than "Pride and Prejudice", and "Sense and Sensibility", and "Emma", which may be why it isn't as well known, but it's definitely worth catching if it turns up on one of your channels. Oh, and it's also the correct answer to my question!
