I still haven't figured out whether Chris Rock's introduction: "Please welcome comedy super star, Jeremy Irons" was supposed to be funny. Jeremy Irons wasn't laughing when he said: "It's so good to be recognized at last." Yes, that was funny when Irons said: "He hoped they missed."

I fell asleep during the show, but watched it this A.M. on tape. Morgan Freeman's acceptance speech was bleeped here for an Amber Alert that a child had been abducted in PA. (At the end of the show it was announced that the child had been returned to the mother, most certainly because the mother's boyfriend heard the Amber Alert on his car radio and panicked.) HA!

I tuned into the end of Philbin's show this morning and only caught part of a statement that one of the actresses was wearing an $80,000 gown and the designer was going to let her keep it. I'd like to know which actress.

Other than that - yes it was predictable, with the exception of Sean Penn defending Jude Law. Laughing

We're expecting 6 to 8" of snow over a two day period beginning this afternoon.

I sure hope they let you go home early today, Bree.

You've probably already seen this Bree. It was in my E-Mail this A.M.

Thanks for the review of the Pinkins concert. I think I liked it a little better than the reviewer did, but I agree that some of the arrangements didn't really suit the songs.

I thought Chris Rock's introduction of Jeremy Irons was meant to be ironic, and I thought there was a twinkle of amusement in Irons's eye when he responded (remember, he's English -- a twinkle of amusement is as close as they get to a knee-slapping guffaw!)

Morgan Freeman's speech was very gracious, and very short, so it's easy to understand how an Amber Alert could have pre-empted the whole thing.

I can't imagine which actress's gown cost $80,000. I just got off the phone from an Oscar post-mortem with a friend who would probably have known the answer, but I don't think I'll call him back just to ask that.

By the way, the Arlen song "Push de Button" is on my CD of the original B-way cast of "Jamaica" with Lena Horne and Ricardo Montalban. That's the show that Ossie Davis had a part in. Lena sings it. No Rap-Funk back in those days, though. (lol)

Yes, you're probably right about the Irons episode.

The jeweler (didn't get the name, darn it) said Hillary Swank can keep the jewelry she wore.
Are you sure you don't want to call him back? (lol)

(Edited, because I can't remember who provided this info on Philbin's show this A.M. )

I still don't know about the gown, but I have a movie trivia question. It's probably way too easy for this crowd, but I just happened to come across it in something I was reading, and thought it was interesting.

What do Ellyn Burstyn, Robert De Niro, Paul Newman, Joe Pesci, and Cate Blanchett have in common?

Well, one thing they have in common is that they were all in a movie directed by Martin Scorsese, but I don't know if that's what you have in mind.

Burstyn - Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Newman - The Color of Money
Pesci - Casino
DeNiro - was in about 8 movies dir. by Scorsese
Blanchett - The Aviator

They've all worked with Martin Scorsese.

Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, New York, New York, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Cape Fear (what did I leave out?)
The Color of Money
Raging Bull, Goodfellas
The Aviator

I did enjoy them. They were a little predictable and long, but I'd just clean up or read my book when it got tedious. I like to see everyone and what they're wearing, etc.

I didn't love Chris Rock. (I know they were trying to draw a younger audience - I wonder if it worked.) The host just needs to have a little more respect (?) for the industry, I think.

I clearly could have phrased that question better. You're both on the right general track, but I was thinking of something more specific. They've all won Oscars for their roles in movies directed by Scorsese (who has never won an Oscar himself):

Alice Doesn't Live Here Any More (Burstyn)
Raging Bull (De Niro)
The Color of Money (Newman)
Goodfellas (Pesci)
The Aviator (Blanchett)

Oh, I never made the connection, Bree.

Mac. I'm glad you said that about Rock. I was beginning to think that I was the only one that was of that opinion.

I was also not thrilled with Chris Rock. My reaction had nothing to do with his language or his political opinions -- I just didn't think he was funny.

Do I still owe you a question? I think I do, and I actually have one ready (for a change), so I'll go ahead and post it.

This actor has been in five movies, the titles of which contain the name of a kind of animal. One of the "animal" words appears in the titles of two of the movies, so you're only looking for four animals.

Good Morning - so far. More snow's expected this afternoon.

Glad you feel the same, Bree. Now, we just have to hear Loislane's Oscar opinion.

Good question. I have to think about this one.

There are no fowl or insects mentioned in the movies I'm thinking of, but there is one fish.
