I think we're about to flip to a new page, so I'll re-state the question.

This actor has appeared in films whose titles can be paraphrased as:

1. Mr. Hitchcock, familiarly

2. Shamus

3. Prince Charles

4. What no-one ever called Ethel Merman

Raggedy beat me by one minute. This way of phrasing questions is clever, but I myself would have a hard time doing it.

You're both right. I was thinking of Little Voice for the Merman clue, but The Quiet American works just as well, if not better.

Ethel Merman would also never be called "The Romantic Englishwoman". Anyway, Raggedy needs to take the next question because it would be hard for me to follow this new format.

Wandelj: Please feel free to use any format. We're just tinkering with new ideas.

If you want to follow the earlier format of listing "types of roles" or even give us a scene from a movie, that perfectly OK. Use your own judgment. But, as you can see, one minute is very important here. It means I go first. (lol)

Sorry I wasn't as quick with the new question (I'm just back from lunch).

1. Absolute perfection

2. Sweetie, honey, snookie ookums, etc.

3. What a beginning piano player might play

4. Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, and Saint Francis of Assisi

Did you have an enjoyable lunch. Good food? (I'm hungry)

Jack Nicholson?

1. Absolute perfection - As Good As It Gets

2. Sweetie, honey, snookie ookums, etc. - Terms of Endearment

3. What a beginning piano player might play - hmmm. As I do not play piano, I'll hazard a guess: Five East Pieces or
in my case: Something's Gotta Give or As Good As It Gets in response to the facial expressions of those listening to me. Shocked

4. Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer, and Saint Francis of Assisi - A Few Good Men

Yes to Jack Nicholson and all the movies. Five Easy Pieces is the movie I was thinking of for the piano player clue. There is actually a group of piano pieces by Stravinsky with that name.

Lunch was what the chalkboard menu at Jack's Stir Brew described as "zingy butternut squash soup with walnuts". How could I resist that description? Fortunately, the soup lived up to it. Here's a picture (obviously taken in much warmer weather) of the clientele at Jack's:

Aaah. The clientelle looks like a very happy group of three - I guess it was a slow day. Unfortunately no zingy butternut squash soup with walnuts on the menu here today. (I like to say that - has a nice ring to it.) Lunch today: Frozen ravioli (defrosted, of course), lo-cal, with some Parmesan for added flavor. Believe me, it needs all the flavor it can get.

Yes, I remember now. The Five Easy Pieces were in the piano exercise book Nicholson owned as a child.

Be back shortly with a question.

OK. Lunch is over. Ravioli wasn't too exciting.

New Question:

This individual not only contended with:

1. Unruly water birds

and

2. Rodents in a barren land,

he took it upon himself to get involved in

3.domesticating a nocturnal insectivore

Richard Burton not only contended with:

1. The Wild Geese

and

2. Desert Rats,

he took it upon himself to get involved in

3. The Taming of the Shrew

This game is so educational - who knew a shrew was a nocturnal insectivore?

These questions are easier to solve than they are to make up. I don't have one in mind at the moment, so it may be a while before I'm back with a new one.

I'm glad you're having some difficulty, too. (lol) Maybe we could give some occupations/roles and then one clue. (lol)

I like your suggestion, but in the meantime I've come up with this one:

1. Mesmerized

2. Pele and his compatriots

3. Edith Head, for example

4. An act the Audubon Society would not approve of

I like your clues, Bree.

Gregory Peck

1. Mesmerized - Spellbound (I just watched that the other day)

2. Pele and his compatriots - The Boys from Brazil

3. Edith Head, for example - Designing Woman

4. An act the Audubon Society would not approve of - To Kill A Mockingbird

I'm going to be out for several hours, so if my answer is correct, the next question is open.
