A little of each, I think (she said modestly). When I first looked at it, I had no clue, but as soon as I thought of "beloved" as a synonym for "cherished", it fell right into place.

I'll be back with a new one as soon as I can think of one. I have no idea how long that will take, since I'm new at this.

By the way, I meant to say I liked your proposals for fixing "Harold & Maude". Your nickname should be "Doc" (like Neil Simon, for his skill as a "doctor" of other people's plays when they need help).

I'll throw this one out before I log off, even though I may not be back to verify the answer until tomorrow afternoon or evening.

2. She was a "Rustic Young Woman"...

3. ...who nevertheless hobnobbed with "The Smart Set".

First thing in the A.M. I can't keep my eyes open.

Mind is a bit foggy, too.

Pleasant dreams.

On the assumption that mac was right (how sensible of me), I'l guess that the answer to her question is Vanessa Redgrave:

1. Girl, Interrupted

2. A Man for All Seasons

3. Camelot

4. The House of the Spirits

For no other reason than that I like it, I can't resist posting an image of the Vermeer painting, "Girl, Interrupted at Her Music", from which the movie (and the book it was based on) took its title:

Inasmuch as Mac's assumption was correct, and based on Bree's assumption (how discerning of me), I most anxiously await Bree's question.

And thank Bree, for posting such a beautiful painting.

Quite right, all around! And thanks for posting the Vermeer! Very Happy

I was just reading this month's Premiere magazine and there is a little paragraph about an upcoming Merchant Ivory film, White Countess. One of Vanessa's daughters, Natasha Richardson, plays the lead, and Lynn & Vanessa Redgrave play sisters (the lead character's aunt & mother Very Happy ). Ralph Fiennes and John Wood are also in the cast. So Vanessa was on my mind. I figured the lyric from Camelot would be the tip-off... and appropriate for you snowy folks.

Ooh, that sounds like my kind of movie! And yes, the Camelot lyric was the tip-off.

mac, I share your niece's high opinion of the Lemony Snicket movie, which I saw yesterday. (Well, maybe my opinion of it isn't quite as high as it would be if I were in the target age group, but I thought it was fun, and Meryl Streep was a hoot.)

New question coming up.

This is probably waay too cutesy, but I had fun making it up, and I hope you have fun trying to solve it.

1. Mr. Hitchcock, familiarly

2. Shamus

3. Prince Charles

4. What no-one ever called Ethel Merman

Yes, White Countess should be my kind of movie, too. Lynn R. is quoted as saying what a "big stretch" it was to play Vanessa's sister and Natasha's aunt. Very Happy

I will probably wait and see Lemony Snicket on DVD (unless you tell me it's one of those that must be seen on a big screen...)

Oh, that wacky Lynn! I was kind of hoping she'd get a supporting actress Oscar nomination for her scene at the end of Kinsey, but I guess it wasn't considered a big enough part.

You can wait for the DVD of Lemony Snicket. That way, you won't have the experience I had, of having someone in the theater fall asleep and snore loudly throughout the last reel. And to think I was worried about the kids in the audience being noisy!

My 22 year-old daughter would recommend the "Lemony Snicket" film. She just finished an internship at Nickelodeon Movies. She helped with the promotion of the "Spongebob" and "Lemony Snicket" movies. (Nickelodeon is the producer but this connection is not being promoted. Both Nickelodeon and Paramount have the same parent company, Viacom. The film industry is now run by a handful of conglomerates.)

Wasn't Lynn's cameo in Kinsey wonderful? I actually didn't recognize her right away.

You're right about the conglomerates, wandeljw. The whole world is now run by conglomerates. Every time I hear about another merger (like the current SBC/AT&T one) I wonder how long it will be before there's just one big company in charge of everything!
