I do feel lazy again (how well you know me!). If you've got one, go for it.

Ah Bree, of course you know that I was teasing you about "lazy". I just hope that you were being diplomatic using that word instead of bored.

I'm here in the wee hours because I usually fall asleep while watching a late movie, but this evening the only offerings were Pet Cemetary and King Kong and I wasn't in a mood for nightmares. I shall now depart to watch Johnny Weismuller in Tarzan and His Mate. I love those Weismuller movies and will have no trouble sleeping while he's on, I'm sure.

Now, a bit of noncausal synchronicity. Would you believe that four of the movies posed in my questions here that Bree mentioned she had never seen and would try to catch some time are being shown this month on TCM. Two of them, to my knowledge, haven't been on non-commercial TV in a very long time, if at all. But, I'm not surprised. This synchronicity/wave length/spooky stuff seems to be a common occurrence here at A2K.

going to have to start renting some older movies...Hollywood Video has this pormotion that you can rent movies (3) for free if they are marked, for a 29 dollar price for 3 months...Nothing new has really caught my eye..though i did enjoy Shrek 2 tonight :-) House of Sand and Fog is by far the best "newer" movie I have rented. ..Cold Mountain was good too..but most of the pickins are pretty slim...sorry for my digression here...Just felt like sharing Smile

I'm obviously going to have to look into getting TCM!

I saw Being Julia today. It's based on a Somerset Maugham novella, and stars Annette Bening as an Actress (that capital "A" was intentional) in London in the 1930's. It isn't a great movie, but it's highly entertaining. Look for it on Bravo in a year or two.

I just read Ebert's review of "Being Julia", Bree. I, too, admire Annette Bening. I like Juliet Stevenson, too. I've not seen any of the younger actors mentoned.

Right now I'm transferring to DVD "An Interview with Gregory Peck", recorded at numerous live audience personal appearances during which he answered questions from audience members. Lots of movie flashbacks and family scenes and shots of his trips throughout Europe. What a gentleman he was. A wonderful sense of humor and oh, so handsome. Very Happy

The "non-causal synchronicity" movies I mentioned earlier are Random Harvest, King's Row, and the Gable movies Comrade X and Never Let Me Go. Isn't that a coincidence?

I think I got all the movie musicals last month and last week I recorded to DVD Casablanca, Wuthering Heights, Camille, Maltese Falcon, Notorious, Spellbound, War and Peace and more. Love those old movies. Very Happy

That is quite a coincidence -- or is it? Have you considered the possibility that the people in charge of programming at TCM are monitoring this thread to get ideas about what movies they should show?

Gregory Peck came to the Alliance Theatre back in 1995, I think, for their annual gala. It was fabulous but what was even more fun was watching those old girls (board members mostly) at the dinner all but pee in their pants when introduced. But he was very gallant, very gracious and still movie star handsome.

Wow, bree - I'm planning to see Being Julia tomorrow! Bening was on a talk show last week (?) and it looked pretty good.

I saw Stage Beauty last week. Very interesting especially if you like theatre. Billy Crudup should be a star by now. He's amazing.

mac, I agree about Billy Crudup, and about Stage Beauty. I have no idea how historically accurate the movie is (somehow I don't think Charles II arrived at his decision to allow actresses to play women's roles onstage in quite the way the movie depicts), but it's a lot of fun.

I agree that the historical accuracy is probably not even close!

I was somewhat disappointed with Rupert Everett. He didn't seem to be having much fun. (Perhaps they had trouble casting the role since drag was required?)

Well, you wouldn't think that would be a problem with English actors!

True! Perhaps the part was just under-written. His Nelly was much more interesting, but then she had more scenes.
