Inbetweener
A recently married man receives a letter from his wife's sister, who lives in a different country. In the letter, the woman says she's worried about her sister because she hasn't heard from her in weeks, and demands reassurance that she's all right.
I'm about to sign off for the night, but will try to check in at some point tomorrow.
Desperate for a Clue, so:
Between the Lines
The Disappearance
I'll recap, since we're on a new page.

Clue: The title of the movie includes the name of a U.S. state. However, the action of the movie takes place entirely outside the U.S. The title refers to the name of the boat on which the wife arrived at the island where her husband lives.
Not:
The Color Purple
Between the Lines
The Disappearance
This movie may be too obscure, but it came to mind because I just saw it on PBS. I'll throw out one more clue, and if nobody gets it by this afternoon, I'll reveal the answer.
Second clue: There's a tie-in to the movie in the previous round of this game.
Bravo, Mac.

That's got to be it. I just looked it up and read that "Original Sin" with Antonio Banderas is a remake. What a coincidence! I just watched Original Sin the other night.
Well done, mac! It's Mississippi Mermaid, Truffaut's homage to American pulp fiction.
If you remember the plot, the wife (played by Catherine Deneuve) claims to be Jean-Paul Belmondo's mail order bride, but in fact, she murdered the woman with whom he had been corresponding, and then assumed the dead woman's identity in order to marry him and get access to his bank accounts. So she couldn't answer the letters the murdered woman's sister had been writing, because she wasn't really the sister. Got all that?
I never saw Mississippi Mermaid, but I remember reading about it when Original Sin came out. (I found it based on research from your last clue...)
Newbie:
A mental patient hides cooked chickens under her bed.
Mac: If "Girl, Interrupted" is correct , someone else may take my turn as I'll not be here until late tomorrow.
