I'm going to be surprised if I saw this one because it sounds like my kind of movie. But, if it is in the past two years, I know I didn't see it. (No, I'm not hinting for the time frame) It's a great clue.
Not Pay It Forward.
The movie is within the past two years. I figured that meant you (Raggedy) hadn't seen it, but that hasn't stopped you from correctly guessing new movies before!
There's one hint I could give that would be a dead giveaway, but I'll hold it in reserve until after a few more guesses. Until then, here's another hint:
The actress who played the ex-wife was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actress the year this movie was released -- but for another movie, not this one.
The Station Agent is right, beatoswald!
inbetweener
while cleaning a underground storage area in their school (as a punishment) a group of rebellious young friends find a cache of arms left over from WWII.
Oldie
A young man tries to impress the girl he's in love with by standing under her window and serenading her. Unfortunately, the young man is slightly drunk, and -- to his great embarrassment, and the even greater embarrassment of the young woman -- he stumbles and puts his foot through his bass fiddle.
"The Magnificent Ambersons"
The Magnificent Ambersons is right.
Oh, I saw that one. Who did the serenading?
A young girl puts the brick in a stocking and ties a knot in the foot.
I came back to id the film as a newbie and you've already guessed it!
hehehe
Inbetweeber
Three close friends on the way to the beach search the ground for signs of civilization.
Raggedy, the Joseph Cotten character did the serenading in The Magnificent Ambersons. Isabel Amberson was so mortified by him making a fool of himself in public that she wouldn't have anything more to do with him, and they each went on to marry other people.
Thanks Bree. I'll have to see that one again.
