thanks Raggedyaggie.
inbetweener
after a long chase a plain clothes policeman catches a burglar and struggles to arrest him. to complicate matters two uniformed cops show up and open fire on the struggling pair. the plain clothes cop manages to convince the uniformed cops he's a fellow policeman by shouting and showing his badge but only after nearly getting shot.
Sounds like Serpico. But I'm seeing the plainclothes cop as a black man???
it is serpico. well done fealola and others who got it right.
Does anyone remember the Barney Miller episode when during an arrest, Harris was mistaken for a pimp because of the way he was dressed and was roughed up and shot at?
A common storyline, huh?
I'll pass. Someone else do one!
(Yeah, this scene comes up alot in TV and Movies!)
OK. I'll move it along.
Inbetweener:
The first time he saw her was when there was a slight earthquake in L.A. and she was standing on a movie prop (looked like the prow of a ship) floating in the water. He couldn't take his eyes away from her as she waded through the water.
I'm thinking, I'm thinking.
Garbo Talks?
I'm also thinking, but the movie I want to say (Good Morning, Babylon) doesn't fit the time frame. So I'll make two wild guesses to get a clue:
What's Up, Doc?
California Split
I love the California Split guess, Bree.
Not:
Garbo Talks
What's Up Doc
California
The producer plays ping pong at his house with a writer. He's had way too much to drink. He slams the ping pong balls off the table and picks a fight with the writer. He ends up cold on the floor. When he comes to, he asks the girl who is with him if he won the fight.
The Last Tycoon
I wish I could take credit for the California Split guess, but I didn't see the humor of it until you pointed it out!
Aah, you're just being modest.
Yes to The Last Tycoon
Was your thought of The Last Tycoon prompted by the recent article in the New York Times about the archive of Fitzgerald's screenplay manuscripts that has just been acquired by the University of South Carolina?
Back in a minute with a new scene.
I saw Last Tycoon one evening last week on TCM.
I didn't see the Times article, but I read that the movie was based on Fitzgerald's final novel and adapted by Harold Pinter for the screen and that DeNiro's character was based on Irving Thalberg.
Oh, it's hailing outside with a little snow mixed in. I think I'll have to shut down for awhile. Our power never fails to go out when it hails.
See you later.
Newbie
When a man makes an unannounced visit to his ex-wife's house early one morning, he's surprised to see not one, but two strange men eating breakfast in her kitchen.
We must have been typing at the same time!
Stay safe inside, Raggedy, and I'll "see" you when you get back. It's warm and sunny here right now, but we'll probably have the storm you're having now by tonight.
Guessing here, Bree and hoping the snow didn't come your way. Chilly, but blue sky and sunshine here today.
Domestic Disturbance
The Ex
Life As A House
Glad to hear you're all right, Raggedy: I was a little worried when the paper said last night's Pirates game was postponed because of "weather" (usually, they say games are postponed because of rain, so I figured "weather" had to mean something worse than just rain).
Not:
Domestic Disturbance
The Ex, or
Life As a House (a movie I liked more than most people, for what it's worth)
Hint: The ex-wife and the two men having breakfast in her kitchen have recently met. They're all lonely people who have withdrawn from society for various reasons (one of the men because of his appearance), but they're in the process of forming a friendship that will ultimately change that. When the ex-husband arrives (to tell his ex-wife that he's going to get married again), they have just sat up all night, drinking and talking to each other the way new-found friends do.
