Hiama: Good one. That movie never entered my addled brain.
Your turn.
(Great scene, EOE)
Walking side by side in silence, she turns turns back occasionally to look at her house as they get further away from it. Suddenly, the more distant the house becomes, the more frightened she starts to feel. Something inside her knows she's going too far with this man -- too far from home
Newbie
I know it's supposed to be a newbie but doesn't it sound like 'North By Northwest?" The scene towards the end where Eva Marie Saint leaves the house atop Mt. Rushmore and walks to the plane with James Mason and she keeps looking back in desperation for Cary Grant, knowing that if she gets on that plane, they're gonna kill her.
Is it "North By Northwest"?
Nope that would have been an oldie-think mills and Boon
No to 39 steps
She's a married woman, the family is away
The Bridges of Madison County
It was the hint that did it.
Newbie
A married woman has a young son named John, and a lover who is also named John. When she hears that "John" has been killed in a riding accident, she immediately thinks of her lover, not her son. Then, when she realizes that her lover is OK, it was her son who was killed, she blurts out, "Thank God."
I don't know but that sounds like one juicy movie! Yikes!
I think the rule is that three guesses have to be made, before a clue is given. Anyone care to make a guess?
No-Account Mom?
Take My Son, Leave My Lover?
John?
Excellent guesses, eoe, but I'm afraid they're not right. So before this question gathers any more dust, I'll hand you a hint that's full of information:
This movie is based on a novel by a writer whose works are so good, they should be revisited regularly.
I can't place the movie (or the novel) but it sounds like Graham Green...
That's funny, because the novelist I'm thinking of is not Graham Greene, but he was -- like Greene -- also a convert to Catholicism.
Another shot in the dark: The English Patient?
Not The English Patient.
Oh, Waugh is me -- I didn't mean to make this question so hard!
Hey, at least I got Kristin Scott Thomas right!
