We are staying in a Motel 8.

I dont need a fancy room because I dont plan on doing much other then sleeping in it Smile

We will be by Illif road

If anyone else is on a budget, just go to motel6.com.
They average about 50.00 a night and are scattered all over the city.

We are only spending about 250.00 for lodging for me, hubby and bean.

Dammit, I found an interesting place - Silver Moon Lodge - I'd skipped before in Old Town (I'd skipped it because of rating/condition... today I looked closer and it's interesting as a possibility, but.... no availability at those dates, even for one person.)

Things have changed since days of yore - dadpad, I went to italy for a month in '99 and spent $2700. total, including air fare with puddlejumper and major airline from California, 29 days lodging, food, train tickets blah blah. That was before the euro, though. The girl can live pretty sparely in no-star places.. but italy has many more small pensione type accomodations than we do here in Chain Business Country.

The 2006 a2k meeting in Chicago put me back something like $900. total (plane from Albuquerque to Chicago then), and was for 5 days lodging.

Here's the map location where The Motel 6, the Super 8, the Quality Inn, the
Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express.. and what else I forget are. I was wrong yesterday when I said they were off of Old Coors Road - no, they're off of (regular) Coors Road. Some a2kers live off of Coors, and Shewolfnm needs to get to Rio Rancho, best accessed by Coors. You can't walk to Old Town from there though... as you can from the Best Western.

You also might have a time of it walking to Old Town from two places mentioned earlier, Club House and Radisson - but fast enough by auto and the Radisson has free transport if I remember right.

Oh, nuts, I forgot the link for that motel hub.

While I go find it again, here's that map posted earlier in the thread -

Our reservations are made.

We are arriving on the 13th ( late .. were driving)

and leaving on the 19th

staying at the Motel 6 on University

for those who want to keep it cheap, reserving now gives you almost a 20% discount on regular rates.
For our stay it is 250.00 and some change for 3 people.

backing up, here's that motel hub location - (see the I in a circle).

But shewolfnm isn't staying there now, so it's lost the major part of it's charm, eh?

If you look at the Albuquerque map above, Shewolfgroup are staying right near the intersection of Highways 40 and 25....

and here's the Motel 6 link there -

Santa Fe - some possibilities

Dys and Diane and little K know the city better than I do, by far. So these are just places I'd noticed before and jotted down.

Sage Inn
http://www.santafesageinn.com/
checking for one day availability and price -
https://mycrs.innpoints.com/book/book/Wizard?xtra=false
*** Tai Chi liked it

Dancing Ground of the Sun
http://www.allseasonsresortlodging.com/santa_fe/dancingground/hotel_overview.html
seem about equal in rates

both of those are close to the Plaza

Days Inn, looks like you drive to the Plaza area (can't tell if you can or would want to walk) - looks like approx. $10. less than the two above.
http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/modify_dates?id=02193&propBrandId=DI&variant=

Lamplighter Inn of Santa Fe (a Best Western)
http://www.bwlamplighter.com/
Looks good, about $2.00 less than Days Inn above
Three miles from Plaza

Hacienda Nicholas B & B
http://www.haciendanicholas.com/
looks like at least $145. in May
probably close to plaza (I haven't synchronized maps)

Good to know, shewolfnm.

One of these days soon I'll get into posting things to see and possible cafes for gathering (one already mentioned, the Flying Star on Rio Grands, a place some of us are quite fond of. Really good food for a cafe, terrific pastries, good coffee, nice decor indoors, good outdoor patio where dogs are allowed, with handsome outdoor fireplace.) Oh, and it's next to a good bookstore...

As long as I said that, I'll also say Indigo Crow restaurant with patio in Corrales.

Others please join in with the search.

I am definitely making my way to the Frontier for a cinnamon roll while I am there

Is Abuletas ( sheeshh I cant remember the name now) still in Bernalillo?

The one with the outdoor patio and painted pink stone walls?

I keep wanting to go to the Frontier. I forget what they're famous for..

Haven't been in Bernalillo, just drive past it on the way to Santa Ana Pueblo (great native plant nursery)...

There's a very good Japanese restaurant in Rio Rancho... Dys and Diane remember the name.

A v. good indian restaurant up by Cottowood Mall. Think Bombay Palace is the name. The only place I'd consider eating from the buffet. (Ordered from regular menu when I was there, but the buffet looked great and I'll try it next time). Everything I tasted there was fabulous and I'm Ms. Picky.

Will chime in with another recommendation for the Flying Star -- we really enjoyed it. Mr. Fix-it is still raving about the Mac 'n Cheese. (The bookstore next door was good too and the owner is very knowledgeable about the local music scene.)

A word of warning to all you allergy sufferers: Mr Fix-it got hit our second day in NM and by Santa Fe I was wheezing. We thought we had colds until shopping for OTC relief. All our symptoms = allergy medications. So if you're regularly sidelined with hayfever bring medication with you.

(Does anyone know what was flowering in late October? Something like a cross between baby's breath and strawflowers -- little yellow flowers and prodigious amounts of pollen! Sort of small bush sized -- rabbitbrush?)
