Who knew you could sculpt so surgically with such a crude tool?

It was really eye-opening.

I think we'll be okay.

Sounds good. Sounds VERY good.

I'm glad you have this intelligent help. I suppose it won't all be smooth. Sounds like you have a new nest of support for Mo, pretty much unexpectedly. I suppose there will be black days - on which I've no expertise to comment except, hang in there.

Now you all have a local nest of support (not that your old neighborhood isn't, I'd add that in), and a semihemidemi international nest.

Someone really smart once told me: "Sometimes you have to let go in order to hold on." Wishing you a new, happy starting line....

Does anyone know what happened to the babies who were in the hospital creche when the earthquakes leveled great chunks of Mexico City a few years ago?

Seven or so newborn babies were found alive after having been buried in the ruins for five days. I wondered at the time and continued wondering what those five days of isolation would have done to their psyches.

You mean this story, Noddy?

NY Times

It's truly a sad tragical story where the adoptive mother just snapped
after an emotional melt down. I always wonder why potential adoptive
parents seek children from other countries when we have so very
many children looking for a home here in the United States. It certainly
isn't a guarantee for a smooth ride, but at least our poor kids
aren't neglected and/or abused in those dreadful orphanages.

I guess, I can consider myself fortunate of having adopted such a
perfect child that she is (in my view anyways).

Calamity Jane--

Many thanks. I know much more now that I did this morning.

1985? I guess that could be "a few years". Those "babies" would be of legal age by now.

I wonder whether anyone has done any research on the long-term effects.

Long term effects of what? The babies form the earthquake or
the babies being held in orphanages?

I saw that Newsweek article. Astounding stuff. My neighbor adopted a child from Russia and her life is.... uh..... hard. Really hard.

As a child I knew an adoption that went bad though and it was an American child who was adopted so I don't think it is necessarily a foreign born adoption problem.

I think the majority of adoptions go off without a hitch but some of them have problems and the problems can be pretty big. In comparison to some I know my situation is managable but I am still very often overwhelmed.

I don't know how the "big problem" people do it. Honestly I don't.

Calamity Jane--

I'm thinking of the new born babies trapped for days with no love and cuddling.
