@dlowan,
Tepid foods, hmm, bread, salad, cooled soup, heated ice cream (as you mentioned). Hang in there.

@jespah,
We have the best nutrition drinks here.....chocolate like...well....heaven.

Damned if I can recall what they are, though.

Grrrrr.....

Still, if Ensure tastes like them....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Mind you, real food is always better.

Do you guys have Milo drinks? Or Aktavite?

Bread? Maybe without a crust. Salad will be out. Too much solid stuff; too much chewing. Too much tang in the dressing. But cool soup and warm ice cream--yes.

@Roberta,
Yes, I meant the bus. Sounds like a drag, given everything else. On the other hand, I suppose it could be better than dealing with someone giving you a ride every day. Usually I find buses fun.

Thanks for all the links, Bethie. I will check them out. I'll also be meeting with a nutritionist next week.

osso, I do not find buses fun. And I'll be adding an hour of travel time daily because of the bus. C'est la vie.

The lousy, steenkin' Second Avenue Deli is closed for the high holidays. Ended up at barbecue. Not bad, but not what I was looking forward to. I'll go to the deli in a few months. Fie on this.

@Roberta,
Talk to the folks at Gilda's Place about transportation.

One of the golf tournaments I used to play at/volunteer for raised funds specifically for transportation for cancer patients going to treatment. The local Cancer Society used the money to either pay for cabs/limos or to pay for the mileage/accommodation for their volunteers who were taking people to out of town treatment.

Transportation's one of the most common things that there's money out there for.

Hmm, pudding? It would have dairy which should be good. I'd stay away from things like OJ as I bet it would be irritating. Pasta. Potato anything. Will continue to think on this.

@jespah,
Thanks, jes. I have a list of instructions. And I met with the nurse yesterday--the nutritionist next week. All citrus is out, especially juice. Too tart. Nothing spicy. Pudding good. Potatos good. Pasta good. They're pushing the Ensure.

@Roberta,
Yeh, to make sure you get all the nutrients you need that aren't in pasta, etc.
I'll be interested in what the nutritionist has to say.

Wonder about something like packaged flan, or jello. (Never mind fancy mousse. Oh, wait, what about fancy mousse.. oh well, either too hard to get or too much trouble to make, and not the time for fancy flavor.)

I make baked eggs. Oiled pie plate or equivalent, then mix in a bowl 5 eggs scrambled, some bits of stuff - wonder about smidge of garlic powder.. little bit of grated/minced jack cheese? tiny bits of spinach? 5 tablespoons water, little olive oil, beaten a bit more and poured into pie plate - baked at, um, 360 for, um, 35-40 minutes. Comes out like quiche without the crust. Makes several meals for a single person. (Let cool, or refrigerate and let come to room temp.)

@Roberta,
how about some nice noodle kugel (my favourite thing ever from my hometown Hadassah Bazaar), with a soft, un-tart fruit

You probably have your own perfect recipe, but just in case someone else wanders by ...

@ehBeth,
Good info re transportation, ehBeth. Maybe there is a van, if not a cab/limo.

I'm a Noo Yawker. Taking the bus is no big deal. If it gets to be too much, I'll explore the your suggestions, bethie. Thanks mucho. Also thanks for the info re lucshen kugel. Not much of a fan of the stuff, but I rule nothing out at this point.

osso, Thanks, but don't bother with recipes. The chances of my being inspired to cook are slim to none, especially when my taste buds check out.

I too am concerned about nutrition, especially veggies. I'll see what the nutritionist has to say. The doctor told me that it would be a while before the ooky side effects start to kick in. In the meantime, I'm eating like normal only more so.

Thanks, you guys. Don't know what I'd do without you. Your concern, interest, and caring mean a great deal to me.

What osso said.

Oh and the baked eggs -- isn't that a frittata? If so, very easy. For vegs, maybe you could purée them before adding?

Look in the dairy aisle for ready-to-eat custards, puddings and jello. I lived on chicken boullion, Ensure, egg custard and vanilla pudding for the first 4 days after my surgery while still in the hospital. It came in handy at home afterwards too until I was strong enough to do my own preparations.

You'll find some ready made high-protein puddings in the diet food aisles too. Look in the low-carb diet food sections.

Found some on Amazon also. Ensure even has a ready made high protein pudding product and it is available on Amazon if anyone has the bucks to order it and have it delivered directly to Roberta. There's chocolate and vanilla. Also saw another brand with butterscotch flavor and some rice pudding too.
