@Roberta,
In addition to the vitamin C infusions, my cousin is now taking coffee enemas. It just gets better and better. Sigh.

There's no talking her into getting chemo.

Hope today is a good one and not too tiring. {{{{{ Boida }}}}}

@Diane,
Diane querida, I'm sorry that your cousin is being recalcitrant--and just plain weird.

Scary and sad.

@Roberta,
Hey Roberta, how are you? Any chance you managed to get to the clinic about your asthma yet? And how is the workload going - any sign of the piles decreasing and the purse fattening?

@vonny,
vonny, Nope. I haven't been to the asthma clinic yet. I'm seeing the internist on Thursday. I'll get a referral.

I finished one book. I learned that there will be a delay in payment. It's bad enough I have to wait three weeks for a check. Now it looks like it will be four weeks. Sigh. I'm a little more than half done on the second book, and I just started working on the third. Yes, I have to wait until I'm done to submit a bill. Then I wait three weeks for the check.

Eyestrain is still a problem. I will ask the internist for a referral to the eye clinic. Then I'll have to figure out how to pay for new glasses.

Not gonna mention that it's tax time. Thud.

I appreciate your asking about me.

How are things going with you?

When do you see the doctor?

@Roberta,
I believe my operation is scheduled for the 11th or 18th of April - will find out for definite by the start of next week. Had a lot of ops before - mainly on the leg I damaged - but never had a skin graft. That's probably the bit I'm most worried about, coward that I am! Embarrassed

Gosh, you do have to wait a long time for payment for your work! Do you have to finish all three books completely before you even submit your bill? Won't they give you an advance? It can't be easy either, not when you have eyestrain. I hope your finances improve sufficiently to enable you to get the spectacles you so obviously need. Good luck with the internist, let's hope you get a referral to the asthma clinic soon - that is something that shouldn't be left for too long either - you get pretty bad attacks.

Tax time - ouch! What's the saying about it never raining but it pours?

Thank goodness you do have the ability to use your sense of humour to get you through things! Oh - and your lucky spotted patoot! (That still sounds like a tropical bird of some sort!!!) Laughing Take care of yourself - try to rest your eyes when you can.

@vonny,
Back from Bellevue. Saw the internist. Another new one. This one is of the male persuasion and a cutie. He assures me that he'll be my doctor for a while.

Everything he checked seems OK.

While I was waiting to see him, I made an appointment with the asthma clinic. Next week. Got an appointment with the eye clinic for May. Got a noodge to get a mammogram. Gotta call. I will see the cutie again in two months.

On my way out, I made an appointment with the psychiatrist.

And I found out from the cutie that I can get dental care at NYU without having to pay. I have my doubts. We'll see.

vonny, No, I don't have to finish all three books to get paid. Each is a separate job. No, I cannot get an advance.

My sense of humor doesn't get me through anything. It's just there, and stuff pops out of my mouth. On the other hand, a spotted patoot is not something to sneeze at. Did you notice that I posted a picture of a spotted patoot on the Beautiful Animals thread?

Is this the spotted patoot(s) you mentioned posting on Beautiful Animals thread? Rolling Eyes Laughing

How come you get a cute internist? My surgeon was nice, but pretty ancient. His registrar was rather dishy though - and young........ Razz Hurrah you've finally got an appointment with the asthma clinic, and the eye clinic too - you're doing well girl, on a roll! Cool Quite possible you'll get free dental care if it's anything like a UK teaching hospital. Students have to learn somewhere, and by the time they are let loose on your molars they are usually pretty well advanced in their (craft? - art? - trade?).

A mammogram - sensible; psychiatrist - really?

Seriously though, I hope all your appointments go as well as today!

No need to doubt. In Boston, there are two clinics where absolutely free dental care is available. One is at the New England Medical Center, operated by Tufts Dental, the other at what used to be Boston City Hospital but is now called Boston Medical Center and is run by the B.U. Schol of Dentistry. (I may not have the names of the institutions quite correct, but it is Tufts and Boston University, respectively.) The work is done largely by student interns but is supervised by qualified doctors as a teaching exercise.

I can't believe that NYC doesn't have something similar, run by one of the medical faculties of one of the local universities, e.g. Columbia.

@vonny,
vonny, The one on the left is the spotted patoot. The one on the right is a king cheetah and isn't polka dotted.

I'm dubious about the free dental care. Why? I've been there before. I was given an estimate of $22,ooo. Not free.

vonny, I've had a psychiatrist and two therapists. A regular therapist and an art therapist. Not only am I nuts to begin with, but I've been dealing with depression. I no longer see the therapists. I see the psychiatrist every few months to check in and to get my scrip for antidepressants.

The hospital I go to is a public hospital. Enormous. And the oldest hospital in the US. It deals with thousands and thousands and thousands of patients. It tries to make sure that people take care of themselves. When I see the internist, I fill out a form. When was my last mammo? Am I in an abusive relationship? Do I wanna get checked for HIV? Etc. I give the form to the cutie. Then he tells me what to do.

Yes, this doc is a cutie. But not the cutiest I've have. This is a teaching hospital. Lots of youths. One of the throat docs was beyond cute. I discussed his looks with the receptionist on my way out. Holy moley. I'm old, not dead.

This did not stop me from having a major dispute with him. I'm female, not weak.

@Lustig Andrei,
Hey, Andy. I addressed this in my response to vonny. However, I will investigate. It's possible that my previous experience was at the wrong clinic.

I'd just as soon not have to schlep to Columbia. NYU is fine. That's the school at issue.

Blame my dodgy eyesight - sort of spodgy spotted patoot perhaps!!! Laughing My vocabulary is widening each day!

Strewth - no wonder you are worried, $22,000 is big money! But I feel sure Lustig Andrei is right about the free dentistry offered - I don't know US hospitals, of course, but I thought teaching hospitals the world over worked on the same principals. I stand to be corrected of course. I hope it is free for you - worth enquiring about.

Depression is a rotten thing to have to go through. I have so many friends who suffer from anxiety or depression - some on anti-depressants, some on tranquillisers - it's the curse of modern society I fear. So hard just to get from day to day without struggling - not just from a financial point of view, but just existing. Not easy for you, especially when you have to battle asthma and other problems.

Wow, your big hospital sounds a bit frightening - I can't imagine a really huge hospital like that. It must be a bit daunting to have to attend there and fill in seemingly impersonal forms - guess you have to enjoy the 'eye candy' while you are there - keeps monotony at bay!

This was helpful to me too - I just found out University of New Mexico has a dental clinic, I just need a doctor's referral. That part will be easy, I think. Thanks, Andy, you're a peach.

@vonny,
vonny, Big is not an issue for me. Hardly notice it. The form is no big deal. A few check marks, and I'm done. I don't get to see the cuties until I'm seeing a doctor. The waiting area doesn't have much in the way of eye candy. Strange, yes. Loud, sometimes. Exotic looking, often. (All signs in the hospital are in three languages: English, Spanish, and Chinese. And interpreters are available for just about anything.) I see lots of saris and burkas.

osso, Yup, that Andy is a peach. Even without the good advice he's peachy.

I deny being a fruit. A nut, maybe. But a fruit, no.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Both "clinics' are operated by their respecctive Dental Schools and I personally would avoid them at all costs. At one time in my life I worked in the Tufts area. I can recall the number of elderly, who were removed from the Dental School Clinics to a waiting ambulance/ EMS service. Based upon this observation, I concluded that the care afforded there might not be suitable for me.

When I leave a dentist's office, I don't want to have to be carted off by an ambulance. I want to be able to exit the facility on my own two feet wieth both my mind and my body in intact and healthy.

The students who work in the Tufts/BU dental clinics are dental students.

If you chose to attend these clinics, I wish you well.
