@Roberta,
When the biopsy is scheduled.
I know timing varies.

@Roberta,
I hadn't thought about old Charlie for years. At least he wasn't subjected to hospital food or paying luxury rental costs for substandard living; yet, still I wonder about him. What type of sandwich did his wife give him daily as the train went through the station? Did she change it around or was it always the same type? Beverage? Or was he to somehow get that liverwurst and onion sandwich down without an egg cream? What, no pickle? Just the sandwich? Wouldn't surprise me if his wife intended for him to get trapped down there.

Most of these places which insist on someone picking you up are irritating; however, as you likely know they usually let you escape if you seem capable of doing so. (um, yeah, I said usually...Arthur may still be stuck in Village)

Thoughts will be towards you Friday and after as they tend to be most of the time (sometimes ice cream or a nice dinner pull my thinking elsewhere).

If you really want the psychiatrist to think you're bonkers, then let her know about this place. She'll either think your out of your gourd or a saint for hanging out with (some of) us.

Anyway, I am sure you'll make it through, it's who you are.

@Roberta,

I don't have a cell phone.

Have Sheila go to the nearest Walmart store and pick up a prepaid cell phone for $10. An airtime card will cost another $10 to $15 dollars for 60 minutes of air time.

Here's a link to what they have for $10. It also has text capability so you'd be able to text someone for help if and when you are unable to talk well enough to be heard on the phone.

@Butrflynet,
I am doubting there is a walmart in NYC - not sure.
I know there are Duane Reades, but not sure what they carry. I think they are related to Walgreen's and that WGreens has similar products.

@Sturgis,
osso, I don't know what time the biopsy is scheduled. I only know the day. I'll find out the time the day before the biopsy--January 16.

Sturgis, Yup, Charlie is still on the train. Liverwurst and onion? Oy. And a samwich ain't a samwich without a pickle.

I don't object to being picked up. I will probably need help. I'm just annoyed that I have no info.

Thanks for the thoughts headed in my direction. Not offended that you're distracted by ice cream or a nice dinner. Ess, tattelah.

I mentioned the Beautiful Animals thread to the psychiatrist, so she knows I hang out here. (Almost all my tschotchkes are animals. Also stuff hanging on the walls. She mentioned my porcelain springer spaniel.)

I don't think this place is grounds for nuttsiness. It was early in the morning. My true self was blanketed in drowsiness. Or maybe she's incompetent.

Butrfly, There are no Walmarts in NYC. But even if there were, I wouldn't ask Sheila to schlep uptown twice. Once is plenty. I have time to look around for one. Not sure I want one, but I'll see what I can find.

@ossobuco,
According to the Walmart website, there are 20 locations in and near NY City.

Someone could also order it from their website, or Tracfone's website and pay to have delivery expedited so it gets there in time.

@Roberta,
Surely Sheila can ring the ward/the ward can ring her to ascertain when you need to be picked up?

@Butrflynet,
B, All the locations are near NYC. Not in it. I just looked. Not gonna schlepp all over in a cab to buy a cheap phone. I'll look around the neighborhood.

@dlowan,
I'll have info about where and time the day before I go. I will transmit the info to Sheila. I don't know how easy it will be to find me, since I won't be admitted. But I'm guessing that post-op will be the place.

I'm with dlowan.

Surely the ward/recovery area or whatever will make the call for you if you ask them. And they can tell her where to find you.

They do here, anyway!

here, you'd be in a day surgery suite.

When I had the two little ops recently they asked for the person who was picking me up's number and called them to let them know when I was out of surgery and when they estimated I would be ready to leave...and then rang again to let them know to come.

Back from Bellevue. This was the medical clearance day. I got to Bellevue at nine. Was seen at two. (!)

Complained about the asthma problem. And the inhumane long wait. The doc gave me a prescription for prednisone and an antibiotic, which I have to start taking tonight. I have an appointment with the resident on Wednesday at nine. I was supposed to get an EKG and a chest X-ray. But after seeing the doctor and waiting for the doctor to consult with other doctors, by the time I got to the radiation place, the radiologist was gone. So I have to go back. I must get these done before I see the resident on Wednesday.

I had planned to go the the bank, the bakery, the drug store, and the supermarket. Too exhausted. I went to the other drug store--the one that does my scrips. And I came home.

Found a message from the ENT docs on my machine. I gotta come in for ENT medical clearance at nine on Monday morning.

I called back. They're gone. I ain't going.

Exhausted, disgusted, fed up, and in a rage.

Highlight: A man came in wearing low rider jeans. His entire ass (covered in gray jockey shorts) was sticking out. I laughed.

If I had the strength, I'd be saying many dirty words. Too pooped. All this on one hour of sleep and an empty stomach.

I'm gonna try lumping on the weekend. (I finished my work.) Won't be easy with not much food in the house. I may order in.

@Roberta,
Raging with you.

I don't know what good documentation would do, but you never know, so I recommend it.
Meantime, you have global listeners.

I'm with Osso on this. You've been put through enough dreck to fertilize a potato field.

I forgot to mention the cab ride home. The driver was an enthusiatic Christian with a Yiddish vocabulary.

He liked me. He wanted us to spend Shabbos together in his local church. He's praying for me.

He also mentioned that people who don't pray to Jesus are going straight to hell. He said that this was in the ten commandments.

Did I need this? No. I thanked him for his prayers. He's gonna pray for me until the second coming. I got out of the cab.

One oy vey and two novenas.

@Roberta,
Repeat after me:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

Repeat as needed.
