I'm now being threatened with evicition. Couldn't I have gotten one day of peace? I guess not.

Gonna try to sleep. Fighting back tears. I'm tired.

No possibly useful suggestions of how to respond to this, Roberta, I'm not familiar with the relevent US regulations & tenants rights ...
Just want to say how sorry I am to hear your news. Yes, just one day of peace isn't that much to hope for, surely? Neutral
I hope you're managing to get some sleep, or rest, at least.
I just wish I could help, even in some small way that might make some difference.
Thinking of you & worrying for you.

I've discussed this with the lawyer. The landlord is within his rights. I am behind in the rent.

All I can do is pay up. The lawyer gave me a lead to a place that might help me. I called. No return call. Assuming that I eventually get through, there's no guarantee that I'll get help. There's also mountains of paperwork to deal with. I'm tired of it all.

Before I went to sleep, when I wasn't trying to find the right place to help me, I was trying to get through to a doctor at Bellevue. One of my prescriptions expired. The pharmacy tried and tried to get through no luck. I had the same results.

littlek, I appreciate the thought. We're talking about several thousand dollars. No mean feat.

Even if everything ultimately turns out ok, I'm being worn down and out by the continual effort to hang on.

BTW, I just started collecting Social Security. I'll be able to keep up in the future. It's catching up that's the problem.

@Roberta,
At least the Social Security is a Good Thing.

Now that you have that, would a loan with a long repayment schedule maybe help for the rent?

or negotiating a repayment schedule for the back rent?

I am sorry you are feeling so worn down and burdened by the whole damn thing.

@dlowan,
deb, Can't get a loan. I have no credit (bankruptcy some years back).

I don't know what or if I can negotiate with the landlord. And I don't want to negotiate something I can't follow through on.

Thanks for all dem hugs.

Who set the paypal up for Roberta last time? Even if we can't come up with all of it, we can come up with some of it. I've had two people PM me about contributing and nothing is even set up yet.

@littlek,
I believe it's still there. (As in once you have a Paypal account you have a Paypal account unless you change your email address or your bank account. I think.)

@littlek,
I think I helped Boida with it.

It's still there...you pay her by inputting her email address as the recipient on Paypal.

Hiya kids,

Back from Bellevue. I was there for almost 5 hours. Saw the endocrinologist. Things are ok so far. Had some tests. I'll have the results tomorrow. At one point she told me that I was her smartest patient. What can I tell ya? Long story.

Yes, my paypal account is still active. I was just there. I don't remember much, but it's there.

Can't tell you how greatful I am.

Got home and waiting for me was a unmailed envelope from the landlord. Omigod. This is it thinks I. I wait to get inside my apartment to open the envelope. I cringe. It's a notice about apartment registration. (Insert the Hallelujah chorus.)

I'm tahd. Relieved. And tired.

@littlek,
I have been saving scrap aluminum in a pile behind the shop.

a kind of emergency savings account.

I think now would be a good time to cash it in. Should be well over a hundred dollars there...

If we can get Boida over this hump, she's got smooth sailing on the horizon.

I can't think of a better way to spend it...

@Izzie,
Wonderful, Iz. Puts me in mind of the olden days when I went to Carnegie Hall at midnight on Christmas Eve for a bit of Hallelujahing.

A mall. Carnegie Hall. That music lifts me up.

@Rockhead,
Not gonna argue with you RH. Desperate times etc. Do you know how to make a paypal deposit?

Now that I'm collecting Soc. Sec. this should be the last time I'm in this kind of mess. Anything unforeseen can happen, but mostly I should be OK. It's the catching up that's the challenge.

I keep thinking that I've been in this apartment for over 35 years. Home. I've investigated moving. Reasons gallore why one place or the other wouldn't work. But from a nonfinancial perspective, I don't wanna go. And eviction at this point would most likely put me in a homeless shelter! Not where I want to be.

@Roberta,
Ima just send you the cash.

and mebbe cleverly conceal it with some solomon's seal in a wet towel and a baggie.

and should you ever be homeless, I gotta extra room at the cabin for desperate guestesses...

@Rockhead,
Does that Solomon's seal survive in an urban environment? I don't survive in a nonurban environment, but thanks for the offer.

An aside: The endocrinologist is leaving. She won't be there for my next appointment. I'll be losing three docs so far. When she told me she was leaving, I said, "I'll be losing another good doctor, and you'll be losing your smartest patient." She laughed and said she wouldn't forget me. Nice.
