Back from Bellevue. Had a appointment with a swallowing doctor. I've been having some big problems with swallowing, not the least of which is occasional closing of my airway. I can deal with it when I'm awake, but it's happened twice when I'm asleep. Woke up gasping and choking. No air. As long as I wake up, I can deal with it. I ain't waiting till I don't wake up. Gotta get the problem resolved.
Going for barium swallow tests next week. Mmmmmmm. Delish.
@Roberta,
yeah, that needs to be fixed i'd say, hoping for the best from the great white north (though the green grass is showing through in most spots, and the robins is bobbin' along)
@djjd62,
You got bobbing robins? Some people have all the luck.
Since this started happening, I've been thinking about posting something here. I guess now is as good a time as any. If I don't post for more than a day or two, somebody should check whether I'm alive or not. Thomas has my phone number and is nearby. A few other people have my number.
@Roberta,
you better just post, little lady.
not thinking any differently...
Ima send you some cardinal pics to coax you into spring mode.
@Roberta,
Erk...so you'll answer the phone then and all?
@dlowan,
If I'm around, I'll answer the phone. Why wouldn't I. Catching me is another matter.
Called Sheila and Howie to let them know what's going on. Sigh.
@Roberta,
(((((((((((((Boida))))))))))))))
thinking of you goil... worrying for you - must be very scary for you...
hugs you - love ya goil x
@Roberta,
Back in the '80's my 99 year old grand aunt and her neighbors in the retirement community had an arrangement where they all would hang a colorful dishtowel on their doors in the morning. If no towel was spotted by a certain time of day, phone calls would be made to see if everything was okay.
Do you have any neighbors on your floor that you could do something like that with?
First, to those who PMed and want to know. This is NOT sleep apnea, which is a slowing down of breathing.
This is my airway being completely blocked so that I can't breathe in either direction at all.
When it happens when I'm awake, I cough. Sometimes a few times. The airway is cleared.
This is not slow breathing. This is no breathing. No device appropriate for sleep apnea would do any good.
The problem is an overproduction of mucus. I choke on it, swallow it, and cough on it all day. My asthma doctor fears that I'm also aspirating it (breathing it in). It's thick heavy stuff. When it covers my airway, it's stuck there. I have to actively make it go away.
No, Buttrfly. I don't know any of my neighbors.
@Roberta,
Yikes! Is now the time to worry?
Hmmmmmm....
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to avoid eggs just in case.
Margo, It's as good a time as any.
JPB, This does not appear to be related to any allergy. It's a side effect of radiation. However, I ain't looking for trouble. Eggs are not on my menu. But the Pepsi stays! A person has to have sustenance.
Just woke up. I slept well. No choking. Gonna start a new med today. We'll see how it works.
I confess that as worried as I am about choking in my sleep, I'm more worried about being evicted. Let's face it. I've got some doozy choices for worrying.
@Roberta,
That almost resembled looking on the bright side. You're slipping.
"I have doozy choices for worrying."
Just kidding.
I wish you had such paltry excuses for worrying that you had to invent them!
@dlowan,
I don't need doozy choices for worrying. I'll worry anyway. However, doozy choices make it easy.
I? Moi? Looking on the bright side? Now that's cause for worry. Not only may I lose my life and my home, but now my identity is on the line.
Phooey
Awake.
Took the first dose of the new med last night. Can't tell much yet.
@Roberta,
Awake is good .... ya know what I mean!
Give the meds a good chance - but yeah... awake is good; I must sleep now - we're living in upside down cyber worlds these days/nights Boida - gotta catch up again soon.
Love you goil xxxxxxxxxxxxx Night night x
Awake. Still too soon to know anything about the meds. But they may be helping. Not coughing a lot yet today.
Gotta get ready to go out.
@Roberta,
This is good news. Hope the new meds give you much continued improvement.
I'm up. Getting ready to go to Bellevue.
