@dadpad,

Welcome to the Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging. The Eldercare Locator is your first step for finding local agencies, in every U.S. community, that can help older persons and their families access home and community-based services like transportation, meals, home care, and caregiver support services. To begin, enter your criteria below or call us at 800.677.1116.
http://www.eldercare.gov/Eldercare.NET/Public/Home.aspx

Call the Eldercare Locator toll-free at 1-800-677-1116 or e-mail the service at eMail the Eldercare Locator. Thanks

# Nutrition Services: Home Delivered Meals popularly known as "Meals on Wheels," are nutritious meals delivered to the homes of older persons who are homebound. Congregate Meals provide the opportunity for persons aged 60 and over to enjoy a meal and socialize with other seniors in the community.

# Personal Care: Services to assist individuals with functional impairments with bathing, dressing, shopping, walking, housekeeping, supervision, emotional security, eating and assistance with securing health care from appropriate sources.

@ossobuco,
Alive and VERY common in Oz.

And not just for elders...as I think is true for the US service DP refers to.

@dadpad,
dadpad, Thanks for all that info. I'm familiar with most of it. Meals on Wheels is still in existence. I have a few problems with it, though. (Remember, I'm a pain in the ass.) Meals are delivered before I wake up. This means I'd have to get up to get the food. Not keen on this, but things are getting so bad that I might reconsider. Also, I like to cook. And I'm still able to cook (grating potatoes aside). This issue, of course and of which I'm too well aware, is not the cooking but the purchasing of the food. Phooey.

I've also investigated Access-a-Ride. Aside from its rather bad reputation for timeliness, I need to schlep somewhere and bring a photo of a particular size, which I don't have. Then there's the question of whether I qualify.

Hey bunny, If I wanna know how you are, I'm gonna ask.

@Roberta,
Mumpad works in community services here in my town. not that its much help to you but she talks about the very same problems you have.
We are small enough here to bend the rules a little or at least help point people in the right direction if the need is genuine.

Unable to deal with paperwork, scared, alone, are some pretty good criteria.

You need a case manager roberta.

Dont make me come over there!

@dadpad,
I had a case manager for a while. Then the organization she worked for decided that I was too young (under 65), and I was dumped.

Now it's hit and miss.

I contacted the city. The person I spoke with told me to get a roommate.

I'm getting a little help from someone at a senior center nearby. She's not so much a manager as an enabler. She sends me stuff and expects me to deal with it. It ain't dealing with much these days.

Tell your wife to get her ass (and other bodily parts) over here.

I made myself laugh out loud. I was writing an e-mail to a dear old friend. I said:

"I'm struggling to fill out a form for NY State tax people. The IRS is leaving me alone. I'm reminded of reading about big game in Africa. Cape buffalo, though herbivores, are formidable animals. They have tempers. One was said to demolish someone or something (can't remember which) until there was nothing left but a stain on the ground. That's the NY State tax people. I'm resisting as best I can becoming just a stain on the ground."

(I had more stuff here. Then I signed)

"Love,
Roberta (stain resistant)"

BTW, The form is almost done. I'll finish it tonight. I'm meeting Sheila tomorrow. She's going to help me make copies. If I can't grate a potato without pooping out, how can I copy hundreds of pages without falling over? I'll go directly from the copy place to the post office. Good-bye and good riddance.

Then more stuff to fill out. Not for tax stuff.

Feeling about the same.

If I ask how everybody is, I don't want any backtalk from a certain bunny. How's everybody?

Not bad, Roberta. About 7 out of 10 today, I'd say. Thanks for asking.

Glad to know that everyone is okay.

I finished the ******* form and pulled together all the papers that are required. Now I have to write the right address on the envelope, get the copies made, and mail the damned thing.

I have to go to Bellevue tomorrow (it will be snowing). I have to get blood tests for a doctor I'm seeing next week. And I have to pick up and drop off some prescriptions. Since Sheila works nearby, we're gonna meet in midtown and make copies. I drive Sheila nuts. (She is not the only one.) When it comes to stuff like this, I'm very (extremely) organized. She thinks we're just gonna make a bunch of copies. Poor naive child. I'll be arriving with stapler, clips, etc. Some of the copies are being sent, and some of the originals are being sent. I'll be separating and organizing as we go.

dj, I saw your photos this afternoon. Needed recovery time to comment.

@Roberta,
I was briefly served by Wheels on Meals, too. Different people every day. Some very nice; some too grouchy to understand that people who can't walk without a walker take longer to answer the door. Lots longer.

The food was. . . . Well, the human contact was nice - sometimes.

Was able to make use of our Dial-A-Ride, too. That also worked sometimes. You had to notify them at least a day ahead of time, and they had to be available. At least you knew a day ahead of time of the availability.
