Thanks to all of you for the kind words. I must say that my confidence is on the rise. I never used to have a problem in that area, but depression and a lot of illness can do things to ya.

No, I will not get the video lady to help with the Medicaid issue. She accommodated my needs on the day of the video. I won't call her about this. It feels wrong, and I have to go with my gut.

I'll get to the Medicaid office as early as I can on Friday, but it's going to be a hellish day--therapist, pharmacy, MRI. If there's no time for the letter, I'll plead poverty to Mr. Occasionally Cordial. He may reduce the amount I have to pay. I can't pay the whole thing and continue to live.

BTW, I signed a release which included airing the video on TV!!! I said, "Television???!!!" They said yes, television. They may be doing some public service spots. Thud. (Yes, I'm returning to thuds.)

Izzie, Yes, I found my voice. In fact in the video I mentioned that it was the special depression counseling provided by the Cancer Center that made it possible for me to sit there and do the video. The therapist helped me get over my self-consciousness about sounding so terrible. I'm audible. That's enough.

They asked me to say some negative stuff about the hospital. Negative? Who? Moi? I managed to come up with a few things. One thing that made them laugh was when I said that the place is difficult to navigate when you're not feeling well--7 miles from the lobby to the pharmacy and 12 miles from the pharmacy to the exit (there's an uphill ramp).

Despite the gratification I got from the video, I got more satisfaction from my meeting with the doctors. I got answers. Apologies. Explanations. I'm feeling less hysterical about medical things. Now I can focus my hysteria on money. I may do something a bit unethical. I may contact the people I work for and tell them I can work. Maybe I can and maybe I can't. But having no income is terrifying. Feh.

Okay, enough with the feh. This was an exhausting but pretty good day. I'll take it.

That is so funny and so right. I used to take a friend of mine to his treatments at Sloan-Kettering. The first time we went he acted as the guide having done the trek several times before. I was stunned. Two lefts, a couple of rights, down a long hall through two BLANK doors then a right to (surprise!) the elevators. Up. Reach correct floor. Repeat convoluted series of turns and journeys past door after door after door after door.
Then you are supposed to feel better!

I know they are turning cartwheels down at the video production office. They have found someone (YOU!), articulate, present and funny. A combination that can't be beat.

Do what you need to do girl. You are getting some Boida-force going, keep it going, if you can, take the ups with the downs, and do whatever will make you life even 0.0001% percent better for you. You are climbing that hill... keep looking forward. xxxxxxxxxxx

So I get up at the crack of dawn, throw on some clothes, brush my teeth, and head to Bellevue. The Medicaid office was half empty. I was number 22. They were up to No. 15. I was out in less than an hour with my letter. I'll make copies and drop off the letter to the finance guy tomorrow. I figured the cab fare was a helluva lot cheaper than the cost of the MRI.

My cab driver on the way back liked me. (Is this getting repetitive?) Turns out we grew up in the same neighborhood--one block from each other. (I was there before he was.) We went to the same schools, hung out in the same places, and went to a lot of Yankee games. Small woild.

Don't worry about my turning my back on you once I'm a star. Not my style. I'll be getting a copy of the video. I have no idea how to make copies or post such a thing. But if you wanna come over, I'll play it for you.

Now I must take a nap. The crack of dawn is also not my style.

Great!!

At least you still brush your teeth and throw on your clothes.

One day you'll be throwing in your teeth and brushing your clothes.

That's the spirit! I would have said it was half full.

Right. I had an MRI back when I had insurance. The preinsurance cost was $2,500 AMERICAN!

Roger, I am in the lowest payment scale at Bellevue. The MRI would have been $150. But if you don't got it, you don't got it. I have enough money to pay my rent and monthly bills. After that, not much left. I'm pondering selling some family jewelry. I hate this.

Bethie, Meant to tell you. For the video, I wore the red wool shell sweater (not the cardigan). It too will be a star.
