@Roberta,
Sounds like a tough day, Roberta.
I'm not surprised, though, that was serious surgery & a person doesn't recover from it
just like that. Of course not.
I worry that you might feel the need to put on a brave face for us folk who so want you to be ok, get well quickly. Please don't feel under any pressure in this regard. I'm sure we'd much prefer to know the realities of your situation.

I'm out of OTC sleep aids. Couldn't get to the drugstore two blocks away. Pouring. The drugstore across the street doesn't have the ones I want.
So you're on your own, yes? Thomas & Joe have offered to help, if/when you need it. I reckon this was one of those times. It is simply too much to expect you, post-surgery, to travel 2 blocks away in the pouring rain, to get the medication you need. Please, please ask for help when you need it.

You're preparing your own food, yes? That can't be all that easy (understatement) in your post-operative condition. Is there any subsidized food delivery service at all for people in your situation in NYC? In Oz we have a service called
Meals on Wheels. Could you ask your counselor to make inquiries, Roberta? It will be quite a while before you're 100% & I'm concerned about that the amount of energy & the time it would take for you to prepare the nutritious meals you need. Really, you should be resting & recovering right now. <big sigh>
I'm sorry if I sound rather alarmist in this post, Roberta. But I'm very worried that you're home alone, & have so much day-to day-stuff to deal with, when you have the far more serious business of recovering from major surgery.
