Surprised Incredible, Roberta. I have never heard of a taxi driver doing such a thing before! Now that's real appreciation for you!

If you read my signature line, you'll understand why it wouldn't take more than a feather to knock me over on more than one occasion. I am often mystified at your kind words. "Who are they talking about?" I ask myself. What do they see that I don't. Or, in keeping with my signature line, "I don't see me the way other people seem to see me." That Robert Boins was a wise man.

Re the hair, hat, scarf, schmatta situation, my first plan is to see if a comb-over will work. I have long hair, relatively thick. Maybe I will figure out a style that will cover the hole. Second plan: babushka (on the way home from the hospital). Third plan: Bethie's first link--plus a hat she already sent me (the white one).

I've already started cutting back on the Oreos. I hope Nabisco is prepared for the serious decline in future sales.

Forgot to mention something good.

I took a cab to the hospital. It was (and is) pouring and cold. Traffic was a nightmare, even by Noo Yawk standards. The driver and I became pals. He's from Mali and has a friend there with asthma. Hey, I'm an asthma expert. I mentioned various medications, all of which are alarmingly expensive. I also mentioned a nebulizer and the meds for it. (The machine is about a hundred bucks. The meds are cheap.) The driver turned off the meter!!!!!!

You coulda knocked me over with a feather, except I was sitting down.

Yay!!!!!

Ya know, spreaders/diffusers (cheap) have been shown to be more effective than nebulizers (very expensive.)

The research was extremely convincing, yet even hospitals keep using nebulizers.

Must be the magic look of all the steam and such,

Boida....thinking that your financial situation may be even a bit better is a delight.

I so hope this is not just about the crisis you mention...but the whole shebang?

Nope. Not even close to the whole shebang. Just the current crisis.

Unless they're called something else here, I have no idea what a spreader/diffuser is. Enlighten me o bunny sage of the Great Down Under.

We've "nebulisers" here - but I've no idea about it (if my father was still alive, he would give a lecture about it, he was a lung and bronchia specialist).

they're going to notice the change today - I'd planned to pick up a case of Oreos to send back with T-man. The cookie factory is about a 3 minute drive from my house - it smells wonderful some mornings when they're baking the chocolate wafers for Oreos.

A couple more hats from the same source as the white one are packed for transfer to the T-mobile.

Really, the research was startling re these vs nebulisers

Spacers, or volumetric spacers, they seem to get called:

They seem to be about $10.

I may need to get one, my asthma has been playing up, and not responding well to meds.

My GP started to give me the spacer data, and I said I KNOW already!

Hi girls and boys,

Back from Bellevue. Saw the lawyer and my therapist. She and I (well mostly I) talked about the seeing me as others see me thing. I had a lightbulb moment (I love dem) and am less mystified.

Then I went to the bank (long line), Barnes and Noble (had to get the latest edition of the dictionary my publisher uses), and a clothing store that had some decent hats in the window. I bought two, both beret types; one is black, the other a purply blue. Another long line. Then I got a bagel from the bagel place and Pepsi from the Korean market.

That's a lot of walking and standing for me. Poooooooooped.

Love seeing all that green, Izzie, although I don't think it's deserved. The sound you heard is my fake vocal cords, not my real ones. But the fact that you heard any sound at all is worthy of green. I greatly enjoyed talking with you, and I don't got no steenkin' Noo Yawk accent. You furriners don't know whatcha tawkin' about.

@Roberta,
Berets, whydidna I think of that (I used to have five in different colors).
Good day, it sounds like.

So many voices I wished I'd recorded, as an idea if not in reality, since I think recording is usually obtrusive and can affect naturalness in the recording.
My parents recorded themselves and me speaking back in the late fifties. I think the machine and tapes were stolen from the garage, along with a few other items. Even the non-surgery-rad voice changes over the years...
