@Roberta,
Oh damn, Roberta. You don't need this! Not now. Oh Bugger, bum!

You know I'm here for you, possum. Always.

Try and stay as strong (& as calm) as you possibly can, Roberta. Tall order, I know ..... Sigh

Thanks again, youse guys.

dj, Saw them pics in their original location. Beautiful. Thanks.

So I wake up and find a message on my machine. Another doctor from Bellevue--general surgery--give her a call. I called back but couldn't reach her. Can't imagine what this is.

Obviously, someone on high told doctors to follow up. And the docs is doin' it. On the one hand, I'm impressed as hell. Thousands of people daily. On the other hand, hey Bellevue. Leave me the hell alone.

I can understand your mixed feelings (especially at this stage), Roberta. Me, I feel very heartened that they're taking your care so seriously. Though I can also fully understand your jitters & desire to just be left alone. Can't win, can you? Sad

@msolga,
Sounds to me like they've had what we call a cancer/tumour Review Board for Boida....that is, the top docs involved in all the hospital areas that involve this sort of thing meet and discuss a bunch of cases.

I know that my care and well-being is the top concern. But I don't want this. Big Time.

Aside from the fact that they're gonna shave my head, cut my scalp, drill a hole in my skull, and fiddle around with something on my BRAIN, the possible side effects are hair-raising: permanent double vision and inability to move my eyes to name two.

Thud.

IF it comes to that, you can say "No."

I know you know this, but it bears repeating. "They" can't do anything to you without your approval. They might be looking out for your best interests, or they might be making a mistake. It would be up to YOU to decide on the course of action you can best live with.

For now, though, don't borrow trouble. It sounds like they're just reviewing your file. They may very well recommend that you do nothing. Go have another helping of dessert and chill out.

Yeah, I see your point, Roberta. Sigh. Some very serious stuff to consider. I can see why you don't need this. Sad

This was not my impression from the conversation I had with the doctor. He very strongly suggested that he thinks I should have the surgery.

Yes, it's my decision.

But aaaaaaargh.

Chilling out is not an option. But thanks for the dessert suggestion. Always a good idea.

Yes indeed, argghhhhhhh!!!!!

Is it at all possible for you to get a second opinion on this, Roberta? Could you even stand the idea? (And yes, I know finances are super- tight, but ...) This is such a difficult decision for you to make. I really feel for you. Sad

@msolga,
No, it's not possible for me to get a second opinion unless it's a second opinion from another doctor at the same hospital.

@Roberta,
So you'd assume that the second opinion would be the same as the first, then, Roberta?

@Roberta,
In February, Roberta wrote:
The doctor I saw said that if he was advising his sister, he would tell her to leave things alone--not have the surgery...Yes, the meningioma is there, but it's not considered a brain tumor. These are usually benign tumors near the brain. This one is touching my brain, but is likely not causing any harm. We discussed my "amnesia episode." He's skeptical that the tumor caused that. Wrong symptom for its location. A doctor at the hospital was also skeptical. The fact that I had been on heavy-duty steroids for asthma for over a month are as likely a candidate as the tumor.

For now we will do nothing. I'm not keen on walking around with something in me I know isn't supposed to be there. But for now, I'm going to leave it be. He told me that if I decide to have the surgery, just call.

And should there be another amnesia episode, I should go to the emergency room.

While I was waiting (almost three hours), I noticed that a Bon Pain had opened in the lobby of the hospital. I used to eat at this place many years ago, and I liked it. I asked the doctor if he'd tried it. He said yes, it's good but expensive. I said, "Well that lets me out."

Hold onto yourselves. He arranged for the money I paid for the visit to be refunded to me. In a sense he treated me to lunch. Here comes another thud, but a good one. Thud....

So, you have two opinions. Your original doctor (with whom you have an excellent rapport) recommended against surgery, and this new doctor (whom you do not know) recommended for surgery.

Admittedly, I am a cynic. There are so many doctors who rush to surgery. If I were you, I'd call your original doctor and discuss this latest development with him.

Hope you enjoyed the dessert. Wink
